Remember when a lot of you were implying that I was overreacting about the Mets struggles? I was really hoping to guys would make me eat my words, I really was.

So should we be alarmed at the amount of pitchers who are having Tommy John surgery this season? This has to be abnormally higher than the past. Is there any correlation to the Pitch Clock this season? Not at all. There's a lot of reasons why pitchers are having TJ surgery at a higher rate the last few years (and it isn't particularly higher this year), but the pitch clock has nothing to do with it.
And the hope is that the clock kind of forces pitchers to "pitch more"/consider using some finesse here and there and not just use 100% effort on every single pitch, which, hopefully, could reduce injuries going forward. Still, so long as we have a development system that encourages 10-11 year olds to throw curveballs, TJS is going to be a thing. Mets are just boring at this point. Not for nothing, but they've been pretty miserable to watch as an organization since 2017 or so; 2019 had some fun games and Pete Alonso's arrival but was absolutely marred by a horrific season by Edwin Diaz, last season was great from April through August, but when shit gets bad around here it gets awful, and there's no sign they're going to improve. Frankly, if this keeps up another couple of weeks I'll be fine with it if they tear down as much as possible; there's a lot they can't sell off given how big some of the contracts are, but after watching a young Devils team grow and become a contender in the NHL this year, it's making me realize how little connection I feel with the current Mets. I know they want to mimic the post-McCourt Dodgers and have a competitive on-field team while building up their resources and farm system, but this ain't it, chief.

Maybe now MLB will finally get the message and make every team have a retractable roof.

The games in Philly and the Bronx (the latter of which is a doubleheader) are still scheduled as going on today.
What the hell is MLB doing?

The Red Sox have added pitcher Matt Dermody to the 40-man roster, and he is expected to start tonight against the Guardians. Why does it matter that the Red Sox are calling up - and giving a starting nod - to a 32-year-old journeyman with a career 5.60 ERA? Because he's absolutely reprehensible. www.masslive.com/redsox/2023/06/red-sox-confronted-starter-matt-dermody-over-deleted-past-homophobic-tweet.htmlFor what it's worth, Dermody wasn't some edgelord teenager when he Tweeted those vile thoughts. He was a 30-year-old man. But don't worry, because Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom said that Dermody didn't know he'd hurt any feelings by saying that gay people will burn in hell. And for what it's worth, his Twitter account shows that while he's not outright posting anti-gay messages, he's still liking and retweeting some truly awful posts from some of the worst people in the social media landscape.

Yeah, sometimes when you tell a group of people they will burn in hell you are not sure if that would be hurtful to them.

As a Sox fan I hope this guy gets pounded. And it shows how bad Kluber and Pivetta have been that the Sox have to go with this guy. And the Sox have benched Alex Verdugo tonight for not running out a ground ball yesterday. This season is quickly going off the rails and Cora's at the end of his rope.

Fire Buck. Tonight wasn't his fault. But they need a spark like Phillies did last year. This season is unnacceptable and it's all because they were blinded by 101 wins and ignored the struggles down the stretch. f*** this franchise for always getting complacent when they aren't terrible. It usually ends with them reverting back to terrible.

The Mets scored 10 runs and still lost. First time in team history they've lead by 3 or more in three straight games and lost.
Heads need to start rolling.

So, the Athletics might not have a home in Vegas. They're having big time trouble getting the votes necessary for approval of the bill that would give them $400 million for a new stadium.

Camilo Doval is unfair.
And Taylor Rogers is reverting to his old form, and hasn’t given a run up since April. I called him a potential “Blake Treinen-lite” signing as a closer coming off a down year bought on the cheap, and he’s doing it.

It would be hilarious if the bill was voted down and Fisher had to run back to Oakland with his tail between his legs.

And one more note. If this guy stays in the rotation his next start will be on Tuesday. Tuesday is Pride Night at Fenway Park. Dermody was designated for assignment almost the second last night's game ends. Which leads to the question of what was the point of calling him up in the first place and why did Chaim Bloom seemingly attach his reputation to this guy? When the Bruins signed Mitchell Miller last winter, the franchise was rightly excoriated for hitching its wagons to somebody with such an ugly, disreputable past. But it could almost (key word: almost) be justified in the sense that Miller was a fairly well-regarded prospect with upside who could help the team in the near- and long-term future. Matt Dermody is a 32-year-old journeyman who has never pitched more than 22.1 innings in a season with a career 5.60 ERA. And he's the guy Bloom stuck his neck out for. I can excuse away the horrible Mookie Betts trade, the shameful lowballing of Xander Bogaerts, the complete disinterest in re-signing Kyle Schwarber, and the ghastly overpays of washed-up retreads and reclamation projects like Corey Kluber. That's just a bad GM making typically bad GM moves. But going to bat for someone like Matt Dermody - both as a person and as a player? That's a fireable offense from my point of view. This whole Red Sox organization needs a purge - from the disinterested owner who has his focus on everything else in his portfolio, to the rest of the ownership group who have actively dismissed the fanbase's concerns about the direction of the on-field product, to the Chief Baseball Officer defending a homophobe. Rip it down to the studs and start over.
