Dermody was designated for assignment almost the second last night's game ends. Which leads to the question of what was the point of calling him up in the first place and why did Chaim Bloom seemingly attach his reputation to this guy?

When the Bruins signed Mitchell Miller last winter, the franchise was rightly excoriated for hitching its wagons to somebody with such an ugly, disreputable past. But it could almost (key word: almost) be justified in the sense that Miller was a fairly well-regarded prospect with upside who could help the team in the near- and long-term future. Matt Dermody is a 32-year-old journeyman who has never pitched more than 22.1 innings in a season with a career 5.60 ERA. And he's the guy Bloom stuck his neck out for.

I can excuse away the horrible Mookie Betts trade, the shameful lowballing of Xander Bogaerts, the complete disinterest in re-signing Kyle Schwarber, and the ghastly overpays of washed-up retreads and reclamation projects like Corey Kluber. That's just a bad GM making typically bad GM moves. But going to bat for someone like Matt Dermody - both as a person and as a player? That's a fireable offense from my point of view.

This whole Red Sox organization needs a purge - from the disinterested owner who has his focus on everything else in his portfolio, to the rest of the ownership group who have actively dismissed the fanbase's concerns about the direction of the on-field product, to the Chief Baseball Officer defending a homophobe. Rip it down to the studs and start over.

It's batshit insane that we've gotten here given how bleak the Red Sox franchise was prior to 2000. The Current Sox ownership brought 4 World Series titles and took the Red Sox to a state of respectability it hadn't seen for the larger part of a century and right now, they are far and away the least popular ownership in the city.  I *shouldn't* hate these guys with the passion that I do but here we are. 

I'm with you 200%. Gut everything. Sell to a Bob Kraft type owner, someone who has love and passion for the Red Sox and understands and listens to the fanbase.  Because these guys don't anymore. They've completely lost interest and it's painfully obvious.

It says a lot about John Henry - both who he is and what he thinks of Red Sox fans - that he hasn't been seen anywhere near Fenway Park this season, or really anywhere near Red Sox fans since the disastrous Winter Weekend fiasco earlier this year.

I can't think of another owner, aside from those who are actively trying to sell or relocate their teams, that is so petrified of facing their own fans and facing the music. I was at a game earlier this year and Henry's wife, Linda Pizzuti Henry, was on field for a pre-game ceremony and when her name was announced, she was roundly booed by the fans in attendance - simply for having the same last name as the owner.

Arte Moreno is pretty close. He doesn't go to any games at all for a while now.

The Red Sox needed to move on from Chaim Bloom for years now. He's struck out on practically every move (and non move) he's made since he took the role except for signing Yoshida. I'm not sure how anyone in the Boston ownership can look at him and be confident that he could build the next great Red Sox team.

Cubs actually won a game last night against the Giants!! And Marcus Stroman has now gone on record saying he has attempted to talk a contract extension with the Cubs and his agent has tried to get talks going and the front office informed Stroman that they are not interested in extending him at this time....THIS IS HIS OPT OUT YEAR!!! Cubs showing no interest in extending one of their best pitchers?? Fire this current front office! This is the same front office that didnt even give a qualifying offer to Schwarber saying he was washed up and let him just sign elsewhere.

So Yankees/ Red Sox again next Sunday as well, WTF ESPN enough is enough no one cares. And 3 Sundays in a row with the Yankees on Sunday Night Baseball, there should be rules against that. And I am Yankee fan, and I can understand why outsider would be pissed off at this. Don't other teams play in this league.
