Mbappe essentially took them on by himself, imagine if the dude had any help whatsoever lol If they had their injured players available for the tournament I think they'd have won. Another problem with it being in Qatar, might have been different in the Summer.

FFS that robe, sportswashing to the end. The iconic trophy raising image ruined.
Haven't seen a host ruin a moment so badly since the red wedding.

Give Messi a fancy robe, and I thought for a sec they were gonna do the James Brown bit and go another 90 minutes.

Best World Cup final of my lifetime and one of the craziest games period. Argentina were the better team 90% of the way but I thought they had thrown it away at the end and France would go on to win. Argentina did well to regroup in extra time and both teams had chances to win it at the end.
I didn't have a dog in the fight but even as a neutral that last 10 minutes of normal time then extra time/penalties had me so stressed. It was insane. I can't imagine being Argentinian or French watching that.
Messi was already the GOAT for me but the one thing against him was no World Cup. He had his own Maradona in 86 tournament here though. Scored in every single round, made insane assists, was clutch in the final, player of the tournament and the sheer willpower all of his teammates seemed to have to win it, obviously for themselves, but also for Messi.

Well, see everybody in four years, where we’ll have 16 more teams and Italy will find a new way to bottle it and miss the cut somehow.

Actually had interesting group games, the format worked and FIFA look set to ruin it for more money/votes. Apparently due to the success of the group games this year, FIFA are considering scrapping their planned format for the next tournament and carrying on with the four teams in a group method. Of course, this is FIFA so they’ll find a way to f*** it up.

Amazing final Mbappe with an incredible goal but wasn’t enough. Never really been a Messi fan but he deserves his moment.
Now onto USA, Mexico & Canada in 4 years.

This is one of those iconic sporting moments that in years to come you'll always remember where you were when you watched it. Definitely one of the best football games ever.
Me and my dad talk about football all the time but it's rare nowadays that we get to actually sit down and watch a game together so it was nice to experience this particular one with him.
Sorry to get too personal but also in the next room to us my grandfather is in bed dying of cancer. As recently as a couple of weeks ago when he was doing a bit better he was enjoying the games in the early part of the tournament. He's not Spanish or Argentinian but La Liga has been his favorite league to watch for years now and he's always adored watching Messi play and was disappointed when he left La Liga because he wouldn't be able to see him as much. And he f***ing loves penalty shootouts more than anything. As soon as a game goes to extra time he immediately wishes for it to go penalties. It could be a random friendly game and if there was a penalty shootout he'd be excited about it. So for a game with this importance to have so much drama, go to penalties and Messi to win would've been absolutely perfect for him. We had the TV switched on to the game in his room. I'm not sure he was actually able to watch/understand what was happening but hopefully he was to some degree. As much as sport is entirely meaningless compared to other things, it can also bring so much joy and it has done to my grandfather for so long.

Messi actually deserved the Golden Ball this team, when he won it in 2014 he wasn’t even the best Argentine in the tournament let alone the best player.
As for the greatest ever debate, I consider international success to be as important and so I always put Maradona above Pele. A lot of that is down to the fact that Brazil could still have won the 58, 62 and 70 World Cups without Pele, Argentina would never have won in 86 without Maradona. For Messi to be considered the greatest ever he would need to win on the international stage. He’d never really delivered there until winning the Copa America last year and now he has the big one, when you consider his success for club and country, then he’s worthy of the honour. I’ve said Maradona is the greatest for so long now, I’m a bit set in my ways but maybe now I’ll have to change that.

New Zealand are laughing. One direct Oceania spot in the 48, which basically means all they have to do is not shit themselves against a selection of Pacific island nations and they’ll be in every time.

Every country in the Oceania confed that isn't NZ should be merged for international football as a unified "Pacific Islands" team and both NZ and PI should join the Asian confed. The West Indies should also be allowed to form a unified team.
I would also suggest that every WC should also include an additional team called the "Internationals" with a squad consisting of one player from each of the top ranking nations that did not qualify for the tournament.
