With rumors of Austin being contacted for another match, who should he face if he were to come back? The best option I can think of is Cena. The fued writes itself. And I think Cena is slated for a return anyways at Mania 39. If not Cena, then maybe Rollins?

None. His match with Kevin Owens was great for what it was. He had his last match in Texas.
Let sleeping dogs lie. Let Austin stay retired.

Yeah I’ll say it.
One night only, the return of Punk. 1 off match of him and Austin. The 2k13 match we wanted a while ago. Punk doesn’t do anything other then the match and a couple interview segments.
Yeah I know he’s a cancer, but he gets what he wants, a WM main event. They limit his exposure to the rest of the roster. It sells a ton of tickets. Win for everyone.

If he must, among feasible WWE options, Cena. That’s a level of star vs star we have only got a few times. Very akin to Hulk vs Rock.

Austin vs. Cena is THE biggest match WWE could put on right now that has a semi-realistic chance of coming together.

Austin vs. Cena is THE biggest match WWE could put on right now that has a semi-realistic chance of coming together. You’re right. But the idea that THE biggest match WWE could conceivably do right now involves a guy who had an eight-year run in the company *twenty years ago* is kind of sad, no? I get that pretty much all entertainment these days relies (extremely) heavily on nostalgia. But the damage done to pro-wrestlers’ bodies years ago means they can’t/shouldn’t step back into the roles the way movie actors do. WWE has gone as far as they possibly can into that well. Goldberg has been world champion twice in the last 10 years. And the only reason he was even able to do that was because he rarely took a bump during his active career. Austin’s not going to have a “run” so there’s nothing anybody, especially a baby face is gonna get from beating him. If they win, they beat an old guy who retired due to neck injuries 20 years ago. And if they lose, well… that’s pretty bad.

There is a reason why the match at 'mania was billed as an interview segment. Its because Austin is so battered that on another day, his body would have told him "f*** this" and there would have been no match.

Austin vs. Cena is THE biggest match WWE could put on right now that has a semi-realistic chance of coming together. Is it really? None of Cena's matches for years have really felt like a big deal. Even with Cena/Roman, they completely dropped the ball and it just felt like a generic PPV match.

How about this? A fatal 4-way tag match.
Austin and Drew Goldberg and Owens Hogan and Lashley John Cena and Edge
You get all the match-ups just long enough for them to look great in video packages for the rest of eternity, but nobody who shouldn’t be taking a bump has to.
Maybe stick Reigns and Lesnar in there too, just to really cover all those bases.

I don't want or need to see Austin wrestling again and I rarely watch WWE these days but Austin v Punk alone would get me to pay for Mania. Whatever Phil's behaviour has been, he's still an incredible pro wrestler

Obviously Cena.
If not a heel Lesnar in a street fight with no German suplexes

Cena all the way. It’d feel like the biggest deal. Plus, the match would work, be safe, and probably entertaining. On a personal level? This would be like my wrestling-Dad beating up my lame wrestling Step-Dad.

No one. His match against Owens was a feel good moment. I'd rather keep it as a one-off appearance. Makes it all the more meaningful as opposed to him becoming a part-timer.

Biggest match? Cena
Preferred match? CM Punk
However, as it stands now, I think he got the perfect send-off with Owens and I'd rather him not risk injury anymore.

Have they announced a 30th anniversary Raw special for January yet? Austin will probably be there for that so if he's doing a match maybe they start building it there.
Honestly more than any regular match I'd love to see him as a surprise entrant in the Rumble (as long as he doesn't win). Imagine the all-time pop if the buzzer goes off and the glass shatters. And if he must have another Wrestlemania match they can start the build by having whoever his opponent is eliminate/beat him down at the Rumble in some heelish fashion to start the feud.
He really doesn't need to do another match though. Last year was perfect. Wrestlemania in Texas in his first match back in almost 20 years. The only thing that could possibly be bigger than that is one of the absolute dream matches v Cena/Lesnar/Punk but I just don't see how feasible those are. Lesnar's entire moveset is German suplexes and F5s which I don't think Austin would take. Cena is almost as busy as Rock these days and might not be available. And Punk is injured, eating muffins and probably not even contractually able to do the match this year even if he wanted to.
