heh between ToS changes that have made it more known to people about Grok and AI scalping, and all of this with the block button, bluesky's been trending off and on for hours now. Yep, everything's going smoothly as ever.

Apple and Google could have the opportunity to do the funniest thing ever. It might also be in violation of Canadian anti-hate laws, which may make Xwitter banned in Canada.

I’ve seen channels I follow on YouTube that don’t normally talk about this kind of stuff posting today that they’re finally getting off Twitter. I’m not holding my breath that this will be the death blow, but it looks like we’re hitting another wave of people bailing.

This has to be the deathblow for the site….right? The site is never actually going to die unless they actually do enough for Apple and Google to get involved No other site still exists that can replace Twitter or its traffic capabilities, BlueSky is dragging its ass and has very similar problems and Threads is just a subsidiary of Instagram and not a replacement. Unless Twitter gets forcibly shut down or gets sold, it's never going to outright die Honestly this. Twitter still has enough of a fanbase to keep going. Already I'm seeing accounts saying they will post more on BlueSky only to hop back on a week later because that's "where the audience is" and want the clot again. The truth is 80% of that clot is bots and nazis and I'm pretty sure that's not the audience they want, but high number go burrrrrr. It's hard to leave a place that felt like your main hub and to start over. As long as people have these feelings, Twitter won't "end". Baring any major change like getting ban from app stores.

So, if accounts people have blocked will still be able to see posts, everyone is just going to go private. Meaning the only way any one can follow each other is through requests that have to be approved.
Congratulations. You’ve just created Facebook with 240 characters.

I'm not deleting my account on twitter, I'm not giving up my username there so no one else can claim it (I've used that username for a long ass time and I'm usually the only one using it for anything.) I'm just rarely going to log in to make sure the accounts not been hacked.
basically I want to leave the hellsite that is twitter, but I'm not risking 20+ years of my username history online to elon allowing it to be used to promote nazi ideologies as twitter still has high visibility.

I'm not deleting my account because I already barely use Twitter. So I'll just continue to barely use it.

I’ve never actually heard this guy talk before but I had to find the video of him announcing this. No clue how people are able to handle listening to his voice for extended periods.

I'm not deleting my account because I don't have one. It seemed like every time I thought about making one, something changed for the worse and made me reconsider.

Given the place has a history of deleting accounts anyway if they're inactive, you might lose yours inevitably.

Serious question: is there even a point for anyone who isn't a nazi to stay on Twitter at this point? It's only gonna get worse until the site inevitably shuts down, you can't advertise anything of worth there, trying to get news from it is pointless, you can't choose what you see any more, anything short of neo-nazi propaganda gets no visibility (made even worse by the fact that people without an account can't really see anything) and more and more people are leaving for other platforms.

Elon's a dumbass but my account is my account and I'm not just going to delete it.

I'm staying because I still get some fun interaction with wrestlers and other celebs on there, along with the friends who have decided to stay. For now, the "Following" tab filters out most things I don't want to see, so I still get some benefit from it.

I left it after it was sold. I want keen on the changes he announced then, only feel more comfortable with doing so with his changes since. However I had no real attachment to anything there so it was easy.
I do wish something would come close to taking off though as I do miss having the access it brought.

I still have my Twitter and check in, although I rarely post that much.
I'm mainly still there because I have friends I've known for years there. It's a community as much as it is social media.
Twitter is an awful place but it's always been possible to carve out a little space and ignore most of the awfulness. Or at least it was, Musk is making that progressively harder.
