Hulk Hogan when his first came to WCW up to the heel turn.
Not a wrestler but, Jim Ross when he started with the WWF up to the Attitude Era.

One of my life's joys was seeing the Iron Sheik at a live WCW event January 11, 1990. Did he belong there? Hell no. Was his match any good? He faced Norman the Lunatic, take a guess how good it was. A five-star classic…BWHAHAHAHAHA! Seriously, it was probably very bad.

Hulk Hogan when his first came to WCW up to the heel turn. Not a wrestler but, Jim Ross when he started with the WWF up to the Attitude Era. He really was out of place and it didn't take long for him to be pushed out during the first few years. I miss the younger, high pitched voice, happy Jim Ross. I will always wonder if he would still be like that if he didn't have the bells palsy of he would still be grumpy and surly as he got older and times changed. Also I would say Iron Sheik as well. He was kind of funny in 1991-92 WWF but was super out of place in 1996-97. He would only have been in his early 50s but seemed like a relic of 20 years prior.

Backland when he first returned felt that way but then they basically made that his character and it was great I feel like the heel turn really helped his career. I can't see him doing all the autograph signing for so many years if he had remained the bland Opie lookalike. People wanted to see him be crazy Mr. Backlund in person. Even being a former long term champ might not have helped his career in WWF. Fans wanted something different and they got it with Mr. Backlund. As Mr. Backlund he was being featured prominently on TV at the very least and making PPVs wrestling or given a skit if not. As the returning former champ he only made 3 PPVs and two were basically as an extra for Rumbles and the Wrestlemania IX was a throwaway match where Virgil or Koko could very well have gotten the spot. There's at least two

Wasn't the NWA done by Russo to appease Cornette but Russo's plan was to make it as crappy as possible so it failed? Surprisingly enough Bob and Bart did pretty decent, getting a few PPVs-Wrestlemania, the April In Your House and KOTR though I think KOTR was just made for the PPV with no advertisement.
Did anyone mention Barry Windham? He was out of place in 1990s WWF. Probably would have done alright if he stayed in 1989-90 but Stalker Barry and Blackjack/NWA Barry seemed so old and out of place. Maybe because he was so young and was wrestling so long. He also had a tendency never to stay somewhere for very long so pre internet boom fans may not have known much about him if they were just starting to watch. 1990s WCW was the longest I think he was ever in a promotion.

Jim Neidhart in WCW 1993. Just seemed really random. and in 1998 WCw. He just seemed to be a guy who was stuck in the 80s

I remember my father being excited to see him on WCW Saturday Night but it seems like as soon as he was there he left. I do remember him pictured on the cover of a WCW poster magazine released around August or September but I think his last time with them was around June. IIRC during his run he was teamed with JYD at least once. And JYD post 1990 was also an odd one in WCW. It's like you saw him a few times, then he'd disappear, then you see him and so on. I'm sure he was signed to some long term crazy contract.

What are some wrestlers who felt out of place in certain eras or years of wrestling. RVD in 2014 WWE. I found it very lackluster and I am a massive RVD Fan he just seemed very out of place and seemed more of a product of days gone by. Ahmad Johnson 1998 WWF. I know Ahmad is sort of a punchline but there is no denying he was massively over in 1995 1996 pre injury. by 1998 he just seemed super out of place I couldn't really imagine him adapting like a al snow godfather or rikishi who were also new generation guys. who had memorable mid card runs. which is crazy since Ahmad was pushed way more in 1996
Dlo Brown in 2008 WWE I always liked Dlo but his 2008 run is very forgettable. Bob Backlund 1992 to early 1994 run. I am talking pre heel Bob Backlund his initial return in 1992 to 1993 he just seemed very out of place compared to guys like Bret Hart and Undertaker. He just came across as a bland babyface from a by gone era and 8 years off tv is like 80 years for wrestling fans. Tommy Rich NWA 1989. Tommy was a great wrestler and pretty over in the late 70s especially 78 to 81 but by the time he got to NWA he was past his peak of drawing power. and with veterans like Flair and Steamboat who still had plenty of drawing power. and younger talent like Sting Sid Muta Luger Pillman and Steiners. Tommy didn't seem like a big deal Rock and Roll Express WWF 1998. Love Ricky and Robert but them being in the attitude era enough said. Qubecers WWF 1998. They returned to the WWF during the early part of the attitude era in early winter to spring 1998. It was just very random and they were more of a throwback to the cartoony era. WWE in 1996 vs WWE in '98 feels like two different worlds. They pretty much dumped or repackaged their entire midcard

Backland when he first returned felt that way but then they basically made that his character and it was great Agreed that he felt VERY out of place in that feud against Razor, but I don't think he gets enough credit for adapting for a product that was more character driven. He'd never cut a real non "white meat" babyface promo in his life, and even then, those promos were not that good. Suddenly, he's doing these insane promos that were some of the best on the entire roster. According to Bruce Prichard, that insane character was really just who Bob was, just with the dial turned up to 5000x

God dude I watched a 97 RAW with friends recently and literally started cackling like I was gonna die when the f***ing NWA INVASION came out. WWF had serious money problems at the time, so they really had to stretch a dollar. Even still, woof.

Terry Taylor 1993 WWF run seemed super random and out of place and Steve Keirn in WCW in 1994.

Dan Severn and Dr. Death didn't fit in the late 90s WWF. They were straight out of the 1970s and 1980s NWA.
Maybe it's because he's been with the competition(WCW, TNA) for so long, but Sting did not fit in the WWE AT ALL, and his booking reflected that. Even as a bias WWF/E mark, I always respected The Stinger for NOT joining the company, and then he finally did, but at that point, it was too late for me to care. Maybe if he joined in the 90s or 2000s, it MIGHT be a different story, but he established himself as a non-WWF/E guy for so long that him finally signing watered down his legacy. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks that way.

Jumping Bomb Angels in the late 80s WWF. Ahead of their time when Moolah and the others were doing hair mares nonstop.
