Turn this into a best-of-13 series, you cowards! I'd say make it a best of 54, but that's an even number.
Best of 54+1!

Who's supposed to be the heel here?
Both were using heel tactics, and the Elite trolling the Chicago crowd didn't help either.
I loved the match, and I loved those troll spots, but still.

Watching the Elite (and especially the Bucks) tonight was like watching them in PWG when they were the best heels ever. It’s like they knew what they were in far and tapped back into the F Young Bucks era and it was glorious. The fact they had the crowds totally into it at the end us a testament to how good they (and DT) are. Total reason I became a fan of theirs

In the story, Pac is a heel and he's trying to get the Lucha Bros over to his side and Death Triangle have been consistent in their mixed heel/face dynamics. The Elite were situational heels tonight, I think. They expected to be hated by the crowd and played it up for a night. I doubt they'll be like that next week unless the crowd dictates it.

A lot of people on Twitter are convinced Punk is coming back because of on the nose this was from the Elite.
I’m skeptical. Punk is notorious for holding grudges and this is not the first time the Elite have gone out of their way to troll someone they don’t like.

Either Punk is NEVER coming back, or there's a 0.1% chance he's completely in on it at this point and he'll be back when he heals up. Because, for f***s sake, you just can't discount the possibility of literally anything in wrestling. This is true. Don’t think anyone can deny this. I’m of two minds of him coming back: 1.) It is absolutely in wrestlings nature to take real life stuff and make it part of the story. It’d be impressive and forward thinking of everyone involved in making money out of this. 2.) You’ve seen a snake lash out so many times, in so many different companies, and it bit you but after you go “aw but g’awsh, look at it”. For the record, loved the match, loved the crowds insanity and I loved all the shots taken. And what a time for the scrum thread to have been closed, bah gawd

I just can't see Punk, only like two months removed from the scrum meltdown suddenly being able to forgive and move on in ways he's never shown he's been able to do before. Stranger things have happened in wrestling, sure but...yeah, I'm skeptical too.

The only defense I can see of the over abundance of references is the thinking “we’re in Chicago, they’re gonna boo, this lets us have a specific story to tell for THIS match.” Because as obnoxious as they were, they properly got beat. But yeah..the consensus seems to now be it might be a work now..

Whether that goes as far as coming back is another matter. Punk vs Omega might be the biggest match AEW can do.

I’d love nothing more than for this to end with FTR and Punk appearing and challenging The Elite. I really would. Unfortunately, I won’t believe it until they’re face to face on my TV screen.

If this has turned into a work, that's an overplayed hand honestly.
If not, it's kind of being a sore winner at this point

If not, it's kind of being a sore winner at this point I don't see how it could have been avoided in Chicago Now if they're doing this in Indy, I think we'll have overstayed the welcome, but in Chicago with that crowd, that's what they wanted to see frankly

It just seems way too soon for things to have been resolved in a positive manner. We just saw CM Punk nurse a grudge over a line Hangman said in a promo for months. And now I’m supposed to believe things are all patched up two months after a fight broke out in the locker room? Nah. Even if it’s possible to resolve it at some point and return, this is way too fast for that.

More than the issues of grudges for me is the form that match took. It's one thing to poke fun at Ace Steel biting him and all that, but you're telling me Punk is going to be okay with them goofing on his Buckshot botch? The last time he saw these men Punk literally assaulted them. It's one thing to imagine his anger has come down enough for them to bury the hatchet somehow with a mediator there to encourage everyone to focus on what's most important. But I don't see Punk being so cool with these guys that he'd now be fine with them making fun of him like that. That would be an exceptional turnaround from the worst we've ever seen him be to him being anomalously forgiving .

Kenny mocking the biting was fair game considering he was the one that got bit. Stealing finishers has been part of wrestling forever too. Mocking a botch/bad execution is a bit more mean spirited and I wouldn't be surprised if Punk didn't see the funny side of that one. Again, I hope Hangman did though.
