Because Michaels is an asshole who enjoyed poking the bear But then by your logic earlier, he should have just ignored it because it barely worked for a guy thrown to the wolves from WM 21 onwards.

But Cena didn't (and correct me if I'm wrong) use other people to get heat. He played up to his own heat. It's not the same thing. Michaels used Bret, who wasn't there to defend himself, and the Elite used Punk shortly after saying everyone should stop talking about it. They could have played heels without the references to Punk. Edit: I cannot believe I'm being pro-Cena in a FAN thread. What's happening. Edit again: I'm completely on the Elite's side in this situation by the way, despite being a much bigger fan of Punk. I think I just wanted them to rise above it. I get why people enjoyed it though.

So the Elite are gonna go down 0-3 in this series then win the next 4 aren't they? Hopefully we won't see Death Triangle look like choke artists.

No, but Bret couldn’t work by the time Michaels came back. This is a different situation where they may be getting people’s hopes up. It’s not entirely smart from a business standpoint. Personally, it makes me just like the dudes less. I like CM Punk less now, too. Well, no, but it still involved provoking an audience and thinking something would happen. Like, what was the business logic of Michaels calling out Bret, having his music play and then bragging that he wasn't here? Especially when he literally turned face seconds later? I'm not justifying it but a lot of people are acting like this is a new thing when it litters the entire history of wrestling. EDIT: And this is coming from the guy whose made it clear he hates worked shoots but, like...it seems to be the way to get buzz for the business at this point. Jade "feuding" with Bow Wow worked a lot of places that should know better. I’m with you. Will be interesting to see if this stuff happens in other cities given they got people talking.

Like, again, I should say I don't justify it but I'm also in the mindset that if TK wanted nothing to do with Punk anymore or wasn't trying to tempt him with what would be a big money program, he'd be right next to Cristiano Ronaldo on the rich person's unemployment line by now. So as others have said, it's 50/50 and yeah, will be interesting to see what happens in Texas and in California.

Wrestlers do stuff like this all the time. Like how Angle got pissy over Orton using the Angle Slam so he complained about it interviews for a bit then did a terrible RKO.

I think some of the other stuff was clownish, but I get having to acknowledge it to an extent.

OR, I'll insult you in a scrum

Got no problem with how the Elite worked that match because the crowd were super hot for it. Maybe they think now they and the crowd got that out of their system, everyone will just start to move on?

I don't care to see Punk back in AEW again. If it's possible and Stone Cold wants another match I'm All In for him vs Punk at WrestleMania.

You should change the number in the thread title after every match.

It would be a hoot if Death Triangle won the next two matches as well and that was the end of it at 4-0.

I absolutely loved all the f***ery and Punk Scrum references, Im not here to argue if it was the mature way or not, I loved it. Its The Elite humor that made me love The Elite

Ignore the boos like a grown-up. Cena did it for years. Did he, though? Like, during a time when there was a strictness on talent about how they acted with crowds, Cena was literally the only one allowed to respond to crowds. One of his most enduring traits was conducting the "John Cena Sucks" chants. EDIT: Also, the times when Cena did ignore the crowd (IMO) were terrible because I can imagine a regular viewer or even someone flicking past to go "Why is he being seen as the face when everyone hates him?" which hurts a lot of his legacy to me before they actually decided to embrace it. Now, coincidentally, he gets mega pops when he returns so... I think Cena pretty much always handled the crowd amazingly, and used it to his and the company’s benefit. Really couldn’t have played it better.

I could buy this being a work if they didn’t do the Buckshot botch. That doesn’t seem like something Punk would okay.

They probably knew that the Chiacgo audience was going to boo them, so clowning Punk is a good way to get some extra heat during the match. There are 5 more matches in the series, I doubt they’ll continue botching buckshots through the rest and this stuff will be forgotten.
If a work, they probably just told Punk “we’re clowning you in Chicago” and left it at that.
