How's it stack up to the other two? I really enjoyed those but for some reason really just finding myself with no desire to see this one, kind of wondering if I should anyway or not. Also never watched the Christmas special come to think of it. I'd put it level with the V2, but it's a different kind of movie. If the first two are the Batman and Batman Forever of the Guardians movies, this is absolutely Batman Returns. Also, check out the Holiday Special. It's genuinely heartwarming.

I loved it as a stand-alone film, and as part of the larger MCU, but it will always bug me that: {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}Peter & Gamora's romance seems to have just fallen wayside, I compare it to a storyline that doesn't get over and gets changed before it has a definite conclusion. I'm surprised no one is going nuts over: {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}GROOT: "I Love You Guys"
I did a double-take, and then I expected him to say something about family. I'm now convinced that Groot is a variant of Vin Diesel or vice versa. Yeah, that made me cry. And as for James Gunn: {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}The fact that he brought Suicide Squad/Peacemaker actors into this (Chukwudi Iwuji & Jennifer Holland)
I guess this evens the scales for now after Pom Klementieff in TSS but then again...
Gunn has also claimed that the actual EAGLY was the eagle in High Evo's cage.

Gunn has also claimed that the actual EAGLY was the eagle in High Evo's cage. {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} The first one is probably just a sad byproduct of one actor being done with the MCU and the other not. If they get her to come back as a surprise at the end of Quill’s story they can still pay it off. But until then…he has to be alone on Earth because that’s where they’ll need him to be when his adventures continue.
On the second one….I thought it was a clever payoff to Gamora not understanding him until she spent enough time with him that she did. Because we’ve spent enough time with him now to understand him too. Of course, if we see him again without Gunn writing…we’ll go back to not understanding him again.

Yeah, that made me cry. {Spoiler}Quill and Gamora not getting together makes sense. The original romance happened because of everything they went through together over the course of several years, culminating with her helping him through the deaths of both his biological father and his adopted father. This Gamora has no history with Quill, and she can't just step into the void left by her other self.
As for Groot, Gunn has already confirmed that he doesn't speak English, it's supposed to read as we have now spent so much time with Groot we can now understand him.

Also never watched the Christmas special come to think of it. It definitely stands with the other 2. It cements GOTG as the second Marvel trilogy after Captain America where all the films are good.

{Spoiler}My issue with it is that if I was in this exact situation and my sister and everyone else told me…hey…a version of you who was exactly the same until the last few years of experience found family and love and purpose that you’ve been looking for your whole life…I mean…I’d at least give it like…2 dates {Spoiler}I just don't think it's that easy. The original Gamora is implied to have had no romantic experience while she was under Thanos' command, being raised to be a soulless killer and all that, and needed literally years of growing close to Quill before she opened up to the idea.
This Gamora is not only contending with her own lack of experience, but also the knowledge that Quill has those years with her other self and him being an asshole for not reciprocating his feelings. Hardly an ideal first date situation.
It's presented as big a culture shock to her as if we suddenly discovered that we were in a reality where we favoured the opposite sex to what we presently do. Would we be open to a relationship with the person who knows us as their partner without going on the journey of self-discovery and acceptance that led us to that point?

Absolutely hit a home run here. Film made me feel over and over again. The High Evolutionary was the exact kind of villain the MCU needed too. Just an awful, unrepentant monster. Legitimately better than I expected it to be.

Me every time Adam Warlock is on screen When I first saw the casting… “That guy plays a goof in every movie he’s in!” Watching the film… “Oh. Well that makes sense.”

Glad Gunn is gone. He never respected the source material and what he did to Adam Warlock here - I'd have preferred he just not bother.
Thank God he hated Nova so much he wouldn't use him.

I loved Adam Warlock personally. Such a boring character in the comics, like Jim Starling couldn't help but create more overpowered Marty Stus to match Thanos or something.

So GOTG3 made about $289 million gross worldwide in its opening weekend. Considering the positive buzz around this one compared to a few other recent Marvel movies, I expect it to have some decent staying power.

Plus they explained his weakness was due to being born and taken out of his pod early as he has the mentality of a child right now and doesn't know how to fully use his powers.

A d he isnt a Mary Sue, the charcater literally f***s up and dies pretty much every major story he's in.

I thought Vol. 3 was really good. Too long, as is the case with all MCU films these days, and some extra characters for the sake of it (Adam Warlock and Cosmo, while good characters, really didn't bring a thing to the film as a whole), but it was funny, enjoyable, emotional, had great tunes, and did a great job of giving character growth and wrapping up the stories of the main team.
The HE is right up there with Thanos and Killmonger for me as the best MCU villain, what a performance by Chukwudi Iwuji; he was despicable in this. The utter contempt he showed for his experiments and people in general made what could have been a very hammy role into one that genuinely made your skin crawl.
I think its the best 'solo' trilogy of the MCU, by far. I'd rank the 3 films Vol. 1, Vol. 3, and Vol. 2 in that order.

A small thing I thought was weird: why spend a ton of money to license a Springsteen song and then just play it over the back half of the credits? I mean it was nice to have a great song to listen to while waiting for that last scene but that’s “Badlands”, man. Put that shit front and center.
