They'll do more with Warlock later I'm sure. I like Starlin run with him but I wonder if a lot of the esoteric, spiritual stuff wouldn't be better just on the page.
Including him here kind of felt like Gunn might have had more plans for him years ago pre firing, but then w Endgame and such long since taking place it was more of a "well, I guess we'll throw him in here", maybe even a Feige note or something. As is, what we got in this movie could have been just about any powerful character.

Watched it earlier in the day. Fantastic film. Another one to make me cry in the cinema. And I loved what they did with Adam Warlock, I always found his character boring as f*** in the comics.

Saw this with my daughter over the weekend and my God, how I HATE the High Evolutionary and could not wait until his comeuppance. So in that sense, he is a great villain.
But the 1 thing I had the most trouble with, even with it being CGI, was Rocket's origin story. How it was portrayed was very troubling.
And I totally understand why they had to, in service of the overall story and future of the franchise, but it was sadder and more infuriating than the Snappening.
Maybe also because I just care for animals, so I could be projecting a smidge.

Interestiiiing. I strongly dislike extreme violence and yet nothing in this movie got even close to unbearable for me.
That said, I loved this movie and it's basically my jumping off point for the MCU as nothing else interests me. Great trilogy that felt so very rewarding in the end.

I think High Evolutionary might be the first MCU baddie to not have a “he might be right” reaction from folks, as in he’s a total dick you want to see get taken down.

I’ve been down on the recent Marvel movies but I really enjoyed this one. I’m definitely with everyone on the High Evolutionary praise, Marvel’s movie villains are usually so blah but this dude was great.

What about Ego, Obadiah, or Ronan? What I liked about the HE is how he had such a vendetta against Rocket/the Guardians. Ego was a very personal villain but the Evolutionary dialed it up to ten with how sinister he was and obsessed with Rocket throughout the story. Ronan the Accuser was alright, but to me it felt like the real antagonist of that first Guardians movie was the team’s own insecurities and trauma, while Roman was the de facto obstacle to beat once they got their heads together.

I always talk about how my little cat buddy is just like Rocket and how that's what his voice would sound like if he could talk. So... {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}when he is first thrown in the cage and the first lines he speaks, it wrecked me. Every scene, especially meeting the Otter in "heaven". I mean it wasn't tears it was bawling, and I felt like I was embarrassing myself, but couldn't help it. We rescued our cat who was sickly at the time with a huge gash on his head and I still can't think of that part without tearing up, even 12 hours later. So the emotional part was too much for me. But I was still great, even if I know I may never be able to watch it again.

Word of advice, do not eat anything before watching the reveal of The High Evolutionary.

Just watched it and loved it. No notes.
This trilogy means a lot to me personally, so it was sad to see this final ride, but they stuck the landing overall. I’d also rank the series 1/3/2, but I do think with time that this one could really usurp the original.
Don’t see myself bothering with Gunn’s DC film slate, but he rocked in the creation of this trilogy. Took a bunch of meh characters and gave them personality and heart, basically ensuring their staying power in all forms of media for the next couple decades. I do wonder how they will tackle any future use of these characters, as I’m sure they will eventually, but Gunn probably won’t be giving notes like he did for IW/Endgame.

So GOTG3 made about $289 million gross worldwide in its opening weekend. Considering the positive buzz around this one compared to a few other recent Marvel movies, I expect it to have some decent staying power. And it looks like you may be correct.

I thought Vol. 3 was really good. Too long, as is the case with all MCU films these days, and some extra characters for the sake of it (Adam Warlock and Cosmo, while good characters, really didn't bring a thing to the film as a whole), but it was funny, enjoyable, emotional, had great tunes, and did a great job of giving character growth and wrapping up the stories of the main team. The length didn't bother me, because it's the end to this team's story. A week since I've seen it, and f***, it was fantastic. {Spoiler}- The pettiness of the HE. He wants to create a perfect society, wants evolution, but gets pissed when he finds out that Rocket is smarter than him.
- Of course music plays a big role, and shows the contrast between the HE and the Guardians. The HE just wanted people to sit around and appreciate it, the Guardians on the other hand had the philosophy of "Let the music in, and feel the emotion of it."
- Liked that the big fight against the HE wasn't some epic fight, it was a complete and total ass kicking.
- The character arc of Nebula has to be among the best in the MCU. She said she just wanted a sister in Volume 2, she just wanted a family, and boy did she get a family. She told Gamora that Rocket was family, she told Drax he was born to be a dad, she's now got a bunch of kids and Knowhere to look after, and she's happy. We haven't seen Nebula happy, most we get is a smirk, but this movie saw her full on smiling, yelling in joy, and having fun. Gunn proved again that he excels at humor and the emotional drama.

I'd love to see more of her, but I think Gillan's already said she's stepping away rom the role and I don't think it's a bad thing to just let some of these characters have a happily ever after.

It's apparently crossed the $500 million worldwide gross mark, too. Which means it's already passed Ant-Man 3's worldwide gross.

Gunn proved again that he excels at humor and the emotional drama. That last part really stood out to me. Like, this might be the most heart wrenching MCU movie by far, and I'm including the one that ended with half the world dying (Infinty War), the one that began with half the world dead (Endgame), and the one that was in part a tribute to a star who died in real life (Wakanda Forever), but it is also incredibly funny and action packed, and still has a great story. It's such a good film in its own right, but it also stands as an example of what 70-75% of the MCU has been TRYING to do, often failing. Coupled with the news that James Gunn consulted on several MCU scripts, it's worth acknowledging that Gunn really is the blueprint for what the franchise wants to be.

{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} If there's one negative, it's that they did not show how Rocket first met Groot.
