A part of me feels bad for Tony. Imagine being a fan of the guy, bringing him in after 7 years not only to appease himself but also the fans who have been dying to see him, giving him everything and then the guy just turning around and shitting all over him and ruining his reputation It's especially crazy because it started so well. A successful return leading to the brief fued with Eddie and then MJF, he contributed to it arguably being the creative peak of the company so far.

I rarely watch WWE anymore and have yet to see a single AEW match. That said, I've been coming into the AEW section a lot more these last couple weeks just to read about the latest drama. The WWE section is so boring. And it really, really sucks because they just had an absolute banger of a show where they broke a world record for paid attendance and have 2 massive shows coming up over the next 3 weeks but no one cares because of the bullshit.

Yeah, the Punk that left with the foot injury at the end of his first run and the Punk that came back seemed like two different people. It feels like the foot injury derailing a great run and the fact that he was drawing boos against Hangman and especially MJF really stuck in his craw, especially since he was doing such an "aw shucks, I am just so glad to be here doing what I love for the fans" type character. In so many ways, looking back on it all, Punk not getting a 100% babyface reaction against MJF in Chicago genuinely feels like the trigger for the bitter, aggressive, Punk we've pretty much had ever since.

With MJF coming out post-match to challenge him. Which is nonsense because HE'S THE ACTUAL CHAMP but that's the only somewhat logical endgame here That's one of the wildest aspects of all the news that has broken over the last 4 days, to me. If MJF truly wasn't willing to work with Punk, and he was just doing the "real world champion" stuff on his own accord then there was absolutely no logical endgame to it. If this does end up being it for Punk (or he ends up taking a long hiatus before showing up again and playing nice for two months before melting down), then I think "CM Punk - real world champion" is one of the worst professional wrestling angles ever. MJF not being willing to work with Punk doesn't remove the logical endgame it just makes a shit logical endgame. That being "Punk booked himself to actually just be the champion and is defending the belt because he's the champion you guys". If MJF doesn't work with him, maybe the next guy works with him. If not? He just keeps remaining the champion. Maybe even loses it to someone and then has to win it back. And now he's won the title again! It's easy to see how the political situation can play to his benefit in either direction. Maybe he was trying to goad Max into a unification. Maybe he was banking on there not being one because he knew he wasn't going to be trusted in the main event but could vanity book himself as the show's top champ anyway.

Punk: So you see guys, I meticulously studied that match you had with the Public Enemy...

I can't anymore, this is too much. Punk being accused of being a locker room bully then promptly being photographed with JBL cannot be real life.

Alvarez on the F4W boards is outright saying one of the participants in the Miro-Punk exchange said it wasn’t said in a joking manner. He said he’ll discuss it on WOL today.

Counterpoint: C.M Punk winning the title for the first time, only to get injured quickly after, come back and be decisively beaten in three minutes. Only to win it BACK a week or so later, only to get injured during said match and get suspended for having a meltdown Only to come BACK eventually on his own new show. Bring out said title he claimed he was never beat for. Calling himself THE REAL WORLD CHAMP. Defending this “title” like only once or twice, once being at the highest attended wrestling event EVER (but opening it, Not Main Eventing). Only to possibly ride off into the deranged sunset with said vacated title vacated again? Brilliance.

Really I think a significant part of why Punk has been so much worse in AEW than he ever was in WWE is due to seeing the company as beneath him. It's abundantly clear he thought he was gracing a C-level company with his presence and was going to instantly walk in the door and elevate the place by himself, and he's lashing out pissed off that there are people in the company who are big deals besides him. I said it earlier in the thread but I'm convinced MJF essentially getting the equivalent to what Punk thought he deserved in wwe while he was in the opening match was eating away at him even before the rest of the drama. Fragile ego. (Not that he had any particular issue with MJF, just that it should have been him)

The Coward shit promo The All out press conference in its entirety The brawl The instagram posts where he insulted Jericho and Mox The counterfeit bucks promo The post collision promo burying Hangman to the crowd This current All In shambles Plus constant leaks from him where he's buried Jack Perry, and AEW and also confirmed he's banned people from attending AEW events It really is insane what a horrible toxic presence he's been for AEW. And remember he was pretty much radio silent for about 6 months. He's managed to fit all that into the last 12 months despite only being active for less than half of it. Even during his time off he'd frequently do little snide stuff. Like if Dynamite did a poor rating he'd post a screenshot of it on his Instagram story with a laughing/crying emoji. Or he'd post new Youtube videos with not a lot of views and compare it to old Punk videos with more views. I think he honestly thought the company was in shambles without and he'd return and save the day because he's such a big star.

Punk is still the lineal champion, since he didn't lose the title in the ring.
At least, that's how it works in boxing.

Honestly don't really think it's that at all. His issue is that in ROH as a young guy he absorbed everything vets like Steamboat/Funk/Foley told him and in WWE when he first got in he did that to some degree too. But in AEW, it pisses him off that as he's now the vet, some young guys flat out ignore or won't listen if you talk to them. That's why he gravitates towards guys like Hobbs and Starks. When he was talking to them, they listened. Hangman didn't, and that along with the Colt stuff pissed him off. It's entirely a respect your elders thing.

See, now I don't even feel the slightest bit conflicted about my "Punk is turning into JBL" posts. Here he is, smiling (as close as Punk gets to smiling, anyway) next to him. You. Can't. Make. This. Shit. Up.
