The Rock is whatever, if he's facing Roman after this push, you can't turn around and have him take the belt. But at the same time, putting the belt on either Cody or Sami isn't building the future considering both men are the same age as Reigns. That's a lateral move at best. Sami and Cody are both "fresher" stars, cause Roman is ancient in TV years. He's been like the main focus of the shows for like 7 years... Cody hasn't been on WWE TV in years, and Sami's always kinda just been a midcarder. It absolutely builds a new star or at the very least can create a stop gap star while you try to rehab your locker room after Vince and Roman's pretty much made them all look inferior.

But that's not building a stable future. That's just replacing one toy with a different one of similar wear. There's no long term plan being mapped in putting the belt on Cody and/or Sami outside of the immediate future. TV doesn't matter if the goal is building a solid foundation for the next 5 years when you can't trust either guy will be healthy enough to perform at a top level for the next number of years. Both guys have had major injuries already, and aren't going to turn back the clock in that regard. If the plan is to put either guy over Reigns, fine, at least it's a plan, it's just not building any sort of future. But if the plan for this long-ass reign was to crown a new face for the company, they need a younger a guy they can invest in for the long term.

I can see Sami getting a title match with Roman at Elimination Chamber in Montreal and losing but I think that's the highest ceiling for him in the world title picture.

I mean, that's why Bron's been built up to be ready to be called up along with many a future NXT callup at least ready for the midcard for that long term. Having Bron do it now or even in the next few months would pretty much kill him from the off so the feasible option, and one of WWE's own doing, is Cody or Sami. It makes more sense for the stories they both have which Bron absolutely does not.

I feel like WWE have been trying, begging, pleading, to get this Rock vs Roman match for like five f***ing years at this point, to the point it's just railroaded the entire rest of the companies momentum to keep Roman looking as unstoppable as humanly possible
I will be thrilled if this never happens and when it stops popping up EVERY F***ING YEAR...

Do we still not have any have any faith in their new creative vision? I mean, certain guys have been pushed hard out the gate throughout history to mixed results, so if they don't even do it, that's Trips problem now. Plus you also can't argue he's handtied in following the lead of whatever Vince planned (i.e. next to nothing) considering how he's filled up the cards with guys that the previous management booted, as well as older gimmicks he was pushing hard 5 or more years ago. Also there are other guys that aren't Bron Breakker that could get the slot instead. Austin Theory, Solo Sioka, and Butch are 3 names on the main roster who are at an age who could be invested in and have been recently positioned against top names, they could strap a rocket to any of them if they really wanted, and that could be building a future rather than a notion we're really just playing lip service to. Then you also have a guy like Montez Ford, who seems like a sure thing, doing pretty much nothing while his prime years are passing him by. Would it work, I dunno, but if nothing happens, it's just hypothetical.

I see Theory more as a top guy then Bron. I thought Theory should've cashed in MITB on him and won the NXT title but it all worked out he's doing fine as U.S. Champ. I can see Bron and Theory feuding for the top spot in a few years.

They rebuilt Theory, Solo's looking like a total badass and Butch is in a stable where the outcome is likely a feud with Sheamus which will push him up the card. The problem is, the history of WWE to this point is that the only way young talent are built is either slow progression that can be like molasses or quick to the point everyone hates it and they're seen as a failure and shoved to the side. There shouldn't be a need to strap a rocket to people because the people on the show should be given a progression upwards that the audience can invest in long term which, by all accounts, seems to be happening. I get what you mean but you also need to capitalize on the people you have right now. Sami's over as hell, Cody's going to come back with a monster pop, both have stories that make them logical challengers and/or winners of the belt so you can't let those go for the sake of younger talent who aren't as over yet. That's how we got Cena how he was for years.

That's how we got Cena how he was for years. Except WWE's history is Vince's vision, and it became complete trash that tended to antagonise their most loyal fans. If this is truly a new era then why not try something actually bold to put a stamp on it. New Japan did that when Bushi-Road took over by putting all their eggs into unproven 26 year old Kazuchika Okada and sticking with him to major success. There's nothing forcing them to be meek about it, the worst thing that could happen is it doesn't work and they try something else instead. What have they got to lose? They're making money regardless, but at least they mght have someone set in stone for the next decade, or so. Let's also be clear, I'm not arguing againast Sami or Cody getting the slot, but the notion that this would be a building block to a brighter future, is just not true. If it's what they're committing to, then by all means go for it, but let's also be honest, Rock, Sami, or Cody, none of them are going to fix their lacking young star problem.

Cody also has the AEW factor as well don’t forget. You treat Cody really well, it might give other prominent AEW guys more inclination to at least consider jumping to WWE.

I'd definitely rather a full time guy get the WWE title after Roman personally.
Rock/Roman would be a great match but I don't think needs to have a title on the line.

It's more about TV age than actual age, really Okay, in what way is it more relevant when building towards a future star? Because you really need to elaborate on this. Wrestlers primes can routinely go into their mid to late 40s, so I don’t know what the concern is about building around Cody Rhodes (37 years old) and Sami Zayn (38 years old), while also building even younger guys in the background for when it’s their time to reach the top. Because their actual age is not a concern, that makes TV age more relevant as far as freshening up the main event scene goes.

HHH: "You know who would be a real great fresh star to finally beat Roman, Karrion Kross! 😀" Apart from Vacant getting another title run, I cannot think of a bigger wet fart of an end to Romans Reign than Mr Carcass beating him.
