WON: Roman May Have Two Main Events At Wrestlemania

According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer, that idea is still being discussed behind the scenes in WWE, along with a second WrestleMania match for Reigns over the two-night event.

The current idea is for Reigns to defend one of his two championships against The Rock on one night, and Cody Rhodes on the other. While nothing is set in stone as of yet, there have reportedly been discussions about taking one of the titles off Reigns, likely the WWE Championship, meaning "WWE Raw" would have its own distinct champion once again.

As always, plans for WrestleMania likely won't start to fully solidify until the days and weeks ahead of the Royal Rumble, when the company begins kicking WrestleMania promotion into full gear. That leaves plenty of time for Paul "Triple H" Levesque to change things around, and it's still unknown whether Johnson will even be able to wrestle come April.

Honestly, I guess it's not a terrible idea if you do Roman/Rock for the Universal, Roman/Cody for the WWE Title. Cody wins WWE Title and goes to RAW. Meanwhile, maybe that gets you to Sami/Roman at SummerSlam for the Universal Title.

I don't like it because it's going to make the build just messier then it needs to be. If it's going to be Cody's moment, don't let a Rock/Roman match the night before get in the way of it. Let him win it after then.

This is not a true reporting of what Meltzer said. He actually says it’s more likely this doesn’t happen, it’s just an idea that’s been discussed.

Here’s the actual language:

One of the things talked about internally in WWE is for Reigns to wrestle both nights at Mania, with the working ideas being Cody Rhodes and Dwayne Johnson. Nothing is definite and actually today the best bet is that it won’t take place like that. There is also talk of splitting up the titles so Raw has a world champion after Mania. But anything until probably mid-January when plans have to be finalized because of the Rumble for this year is just talk, like the complete overreaction when I noted the Johnson winning the Rumble thing as the internal “pie in the sky” idea which of course in a perfect world that’s what you would want to do, but that hardly means the perfect world scenario is what’s going to happen given Johnson has far bigger things on his plate like the XFL launch, movies, TV, whatever.

It's better than nothing I guess but I don't know what the f*** you do with the Universal title after that in that case. Other than Cody no one else is even kinda positioned as a believable threat to it and after Cody and the Rock there's nobody really left for him to defend it against on either brand.

I really don’t like the idea of Roman wrestling twice at Wrestlemania. Just pick one and go all in on it. Promoting two matches at the same time feels like they will just dilute the impact of one another.

If Rock is available just do that match. It’s obviously the biggest possible match you can book and Cody will get his world title later on.

Plus I feel like either Usos v Sami/KO or the top women’s match deserves to main event night one. There’s no need for the same person to main event both nights.

Even though I agree Roman should drop the belt at Mania, there are still people he can defend against like Sami, face Seth, AJ, Lashley, Austin Theory, Orton (if he recovers). With a part time schedule that can get him to Mania 40
