I will add that I was not a mod when the split happened. But that was my take as a poster at the time... just some of his reactions to polls asking about the main site being met with "There's a main site?" and the Basketball jones fiasco. One day that whole story will be told. Hell, a book on the whole mod section would be cool.

Jim Cornette has a video up about the Wrestlecrap article and he quoted something I wrote about the Beaver Cleavage angle...LOL ("gigantic bowl of feces").

The messed up part is that in theory, having someone who was involved in these stories or segments talk about their conception or provide context for them could be really interesting. If you've ever heard Triple H talk about the Katie Vick segment, for instance, it's funny as hell. Doing some kind of guest columnist spot where you milk connections or somehow try and get people to come on in and give some better backstage insight into this could be fun as hell. Maybe accompanied by a writer or something so it can be punched up and put nicer, sure, but it can work.
But instead it's all being done by Vince Russo, who wrote a lot of the material I expect he's going to cover, who sucks a lot as a person, who sucks almost as much as a columnist, and who is incapable of providing meaningful insight or mea culpa about f***ing any of it.

I've been a member since 2006 and lurked from a time before proboards but I'm blanking on the Basketball Jones fiasco 😂 I mean I know the term and reference, it's the fiasco part I'm blanking on.
Anyone care to refresh my memory?

Gonna be honest, I'm fairly indifferent to Russo getting a column, but just from a writing standpoint, it would be better if was a podcast/discussion with someone debating him about the angle rather than him just spouting off a fairly weak defense of it.
Definitely feels like a case of RD's friendship with Russo blinding him to the dubious quality of feature.

I rarely listen to Jim Cornette for obvious reasons but listening to him tearing this apart was a joyful early xmas present.

Anyone care to refresh my memory? it was a really obvious and bad attempt to force a meme by RD. they auto-censored Batista's name to Basketball Jones so you couldn't talk about him without all instances of his name being changed to Basketball Jones. it was something worth maybe a chuckle for a minute but they kept it that way for weeks.

FAN #1:Yeah, he's a real motherf***er alright.
FAN #2: No, you see Chaz wasn't and it was dumb to think that would make an intriguing gimmick to get him heel heat.
FAN #1: Chaz? I was talking about Russo.

I imagine his podcast is a lot like this but with more misogyny, and I don't listen to his podcast because I already don't want to perceive this shit so f*** anyone who's helping him spread this shit. Russo should be whiskled away to some government black site for his crimes against TV so he goes away and shuts up.

For those who don't know Basketball Jones was the name of a song by Cheech & Chong that I believe former WCR contributor Triple Kelly referenced after the basketballs don't hold grudges promo. Of course RD & Blade loved it because it was a fairly obscure dated reference. I liked it to but it definitely was a signal that the message board and the main site had grown apart. Posters on the forum were more interested in current wrestling then geeky references to the 70s & 80s, which kind of was what Wrestlecrap came to be.

That is the thing I can't stand most of all about Russo is that never once can he admit "Well maybe that wasn't such a good idea" and take the L on it. The dude always has a excuse and blames everyone but himself. To me that is one of my biggest pet peeves is someone who cant own up to their own faults. Hell even the best storytellers usually admit when a idea doesn't work but not King Russo.

RD also was angry when the mods changed the censor back, and that no one got the reference to the article reference. As I said the Board had become more popular than the main site so more people were here than reading WC so a big group just flat out did not get it.

It's mostly inevitable that a social function of a site (forums, comment section, chatroom etc) becomes more popular than the site's content. If anything it's a sign of success that a community attached to your site is able to thrive and stay active during down times and content droughts.
But yeah, forget anything WWE, AEW, or Impact has done this year. The real gooker winner is "Wrestlecrap giving Vince Russo a platform."

No matter how many unnecessary purchases you made... you still never paid Vince Russo to write something >_>

I had no idea the Jones part had any wider meaning, I got the basketball reference with the Batista promo at the time but thought the Jones bit was just random.

Just shows how deluded that he is, because if he just accepted that a lot of his ideas were awful and showed up on podcasts and wherever and took the piss out of himself and these awful gimmicks people would probably enjoy listening about this nonsense. Instead it’s always “the network wouldn’t let me do it” or “no one could understand what I was going for”(and thus understand his genius). It really shows how he doesn’t get it.
