I've been a member since 2006 and lurked from a time before proboards but I'm blanking on the Basketball Jones fiasco 😂 I mean I know the term and reference, it's the fiasco part I'm blanking on. Anyone care to refresh my memory? I hated that I almost left the forum over Basketball Jones The biggest standouts to me were the swear/curse word filters with smurf top of the list. I've forgotten most other now though.

Basketball Jones would've been amusing if somehow Batista showed up in AEW with a basketball and Taz called him that.
Making an at the time popular wrestler's name filtered into that based on a really obscure reference is confusing and quite frankly, stupid.

I will, because you’re correct! “Full House ruled” was also a replacement for “whore.” I remember that Basketball Jones was the only time the mods let us type around the filter, so we could say Batista’s name without triggering it. Here’s a fun thread about the filters we used to have: officialfan.proboards.com/thread/624010/yo-word-filters

That is the thing I can't stand most of all about Russo is that never once can he admit "Well maybe that wasn't such a good idea" and take the L on it. The dude always has a excuse and blames everyone but himself. To me that is one of my biggest pet peeves is someone who cant own up to their own faults. Hell even the best storytellers usually admit when a idea doesn't work but not King Russo. Just shows how deluded that he is, because if he just accepted that a lot of his ideas were awful and showed up on podcasts and wherever and took the piss out of himself and these awful gimmicks people would probably enjoy listening about this nonsense. Instead it’s always “the network wouldn’t let me do it” or “no one could understand what I was going for”(and thus understand his genius). It really shows how he doesn’t get it. if he like admitted he was just throwing shit at the wall to see if anything stuck.. and yeah a lot of hte ideas were bad but who never know what gets over with crowds... and laugh at teh stuff that didn't...well he wouldn't be Vince Russo. But he is also not the only person in wrestling like that.

Yeah that really does sum it up. Just pure delusions and ego. He certainly loved blaming standards and practices

The Basketball Jones thing was actually changed twice. First time with no mention to the moderators at all and went Posters rightfully complained cuz they were trying to talk about Dave&this was dumb.
So mods changed it back. Reynolds changed it again without saying anything shy of being really pissy it was changed back in the first place and was put out that pretty much none of the mods knew the origin which was I think some gag on the main site or the podcast. I don't remember the whole deal as that's been nearly 15 years at this point but he also said something about how mods ought to be familiar w the podcast and characters etc. This was met with an almost universal "yeah I'm not doing that." Which is one of the first cracks in the eventual schism.
On topic, even if there had never been implied incest it was a wrestling character based around a nearly 50 year old sitcom. That was never gonna get over

That was never gonna get over it was an article written by Triple Kelly where they casually referred to him as Basketball Jones once... The rest of the article he was referred to as Batista... or Dave... so it wasn't even RD's joke. he did ad an "editors note" how absolutely hilarious he found the nickname... but it wasn't his joke.

So just out of curiosity the Mods back in 2009/10 were not people who by and large came to this forum because they were fans of WC? I guess because my association stated with being a fan of the site first who visited its forum which over time became site I'd go to first I assumed it was similar with other long term members. Maybe it was around that time that the balance of WC fans vs general wrestling fans on the forum shifted?

Yeah that matches my own experience here too. In fact I was just thinking about the "Ask Rd & Blade" section and how much less traffic it seemed to get even in 2006/07 then the rest of the board when WC still seemed relatively healthy.

What we're talking about the schism, what's the story with the angry message that Blade Braxton sent to the Mods that a few of the Mods have mentioned from time to time? Like, what was it in relation to/about?

This is a great section of the site, where two-thirds of "Explain this thing you worked on" aren't things he worked on.

For a dude who has dedicated his life to taking the piss out of wrestling, RD comes off as the biggest mark on the planet. In the original, "person who is an easy target for being taken advantage of" sense of the word.

But man, I lost a little respect for him after Bischoff made him look stupid at Starrcast.
