I'll be honest I wouldn't be terribly surprised if that was part of Russo's conditions to appear on the show.

What we're talking about the schism, what's the story with the angry message that Blade Braxton sent to the Mods that a few of the Mods have mentioned from time to time? Like, what was it in relation to/about? I don't really remember the details as this has been a good 15 years ago, but it was basically a burial/insults I think... Nothing really specific incident wise I don't believe, just a general bunch of insults post schism.

Another new induction, and it's still not Russo's fault, but it is a little, because he thought Chainsaw Charlie was hilarious and he didn't speak up about how bad it was. Yawn.

So far, it feels like the Beaver Cleavage was the only one where Russo tries to explain/defend the gimmick and where it was going.

For a dude who has dedicated his life to taking the piss out of wrestling, RD comes off as the biggest mark on the planet. In the original, "person who is an easy target for being taken advantage of" sense of the word. I enjoy RD as a writer. But man, I lost a little respect for him after Bischoff made him look stupid at Starrcast. I'm watching this for the first time now. woof

I'm watching this for the first time now. woof I watched it and I remember RD coming out a couple days later. Trying to defend himself, by saying he got nervous and wasn't as prepared as he should been and some other excuse. I liked RD and gone back and forth with him on FB for years. Same with Blade before he passed. I did a segment with them on the Podcast for a one week TNA correspondent. They always been cool to talk to0. Every week I try and follow his FB live reaction thread for AEW. I felt the Russo stuff was odd. I know they do a podcast together about the Adam West Batman tv series. As for the interview with Russo and not talk about wrestling. Thats the Podcast gimmick was. They suppose to be about wrestling but never talk about really anything that is going on. Make a bunch of old TV show or movie references. Make cheesyt jokes and go on rants about really nothing. That was the whole joke as TNA wrestling correspondent that It was a revealing door of characters (Either voice changing or sound clips) But never talk about the company. Like when I did it, I was using the week where the show didn't really air the show but instead the repeated That's 70 show commercial as my refence and say "I'm not sure what was happening but I know Donna has really big hands" A line from the ad, than brought of Christian Cage because they day of the Youtube channel upload his entrance video years after he left. I said something like I guess this Christian Cage guy must be a big deal. They uploaded this entrance video on this youtube thing.

I had never seen that video before. Man that was brutal to watch. RD looked totally lost and came across as a used car salesman. You can also tell that Eazy E know how to command an audience and sell himself.

It's so easy to go ballistic on wrestling creatives and their flops but you know what's not so easy? Coming up with ideas that stick regardless of how stupid or illogical they are. For every idea that sticks you probably have dozen of Beaver Cleavage and Red Roosters because you can't turn roster of 30 plus people into shoot fighters who just want to win matches. That's super boring and super stupid at the same time. We can laugh at the Repo Man, Dumpster Duke, Bastion Booger all day long and talk crap how stupid these gimmicks were but without them there would have been no IRS, no Bossman, no Undertaker, no gigolo Shawn Michaels, no Razor Ramon, no Johnny B Badd and countless other classic gimmicks that just happened to work even though they really shouldn't have. You can't say oh Undertaker worked because Mark was so talented. That's BS. You wanna tell me Charles was not talented and that's why Papa Shango flopped? Papa Shango was even cooler than Undertakes if you ask me but afterall some stuff sticks and some dont for whatever reason.

I think the idea of the column is fine (and I agree with whoever said revisiting stuff in a podcast would work better) I just don't think Russo does a great job of explaining the process and deflects too much... or like I said before, choosing to defend Beaver Cleavage is not an interesting topic. There are enough ideas that Russo could make an insightful column but he just doesn't explain things well.

the problem is Russo is not the guy for a podcast or article setup like this.
Because he will never admit that he's had a bad idea, if something didn't work it was never because he was just throwing the first thing at the wall and hoped it stuck like some things in the past.
It's always some grand vision that no one but him saw... and it was watered down by the crowd not accepting it... or standards and practices or the people portraying the character.
I'd be hard pressed to think of a major wrestling creative that would be able to do that accurately... as most of the main voices of creative do the same thing of everyone else is to blame and not me...

Explained the situation, took his share of the blame and didn’t bury Russo. RD shouldn’t have been up there with a pro like that. It’s easy to see how Biachoff kept getting jobs in wrestling. lol

'This white man has only ever been polite to us, other white men, and so none of his history of racism, misogyny, transphobia, base level factual incorrectness or terrible writing is relevant' The Civil Rights movement isn’t going to collapse because a niche wrestling website has let a writer who hasn’t been relevant since the 90s write a column.

(You did see him crack from time to time during the Monday Night Wars, but by the time of Starrcast? He was thoroughly seasoned.) I am not really an RD fan, but I'm not going to dump on him too hard here outside of thinking that he really should have known better and put himself in a no-win situation out of hubris.

Have you seen the pinatta on a pole match? Have you heard the interview where he says that as an American he has no interest in any wrestler from Japan or Mexico? Even if I was to drop the race aspect, there is still how he writes every single woman as an unhinged skank?
