Do assumed nationalities and accents count?
Because I was convinced Chadwick Boseman was a British dude then I heard him talk and brother sounded straight outta Motown

Bud Spencer and Terence Hill mostly played American characters. But that was true for much of Italian genre cinema.

Listening to Gary Oldman, Christian Bale, and Charlie Cox talking with their real "Awright guvnah, how's ya fava?" accents is always a trip. This also applies to Andrew Lincoln aka Rick Grimes from Walking Dead. My mind was blown when I heard his real accent.

I was so caught off guard when I heard Top Hopper's actual accent. I just assumed he was American after seeing him on Umbrella Academy.

Eric Braeden, a German-born actor, has played a number of American characters. Most famously Victor Newman in the daytime soap opera "Young And The Restless" and John Jacob Astor IV in James Cameron's "Titanic."

One of my favourite (and completely stupid) games is finding a new Christian Bale interview on YouTube and seeing how many comments it takes before someone freaks out because he's British. Even after 30+ years of him making movies there are still people who think he's American.

Because I was convinced Chadwick Boseman was a British dude then I heard him talk and brother sounded straight outta Motown That happened to me, too, probably since "Chadwick" just sounds like it'd be an English guy's name. I for some reason got Krysten Ritter confused with someone else, I assume, and thought she was British and just had a really good fake American accent until I saw an interview with her and realized that's just her.

Who knew Spartans spoke with an occasional thick brogue. Marc Mero played Johnny B Badd, who I believe, was supposed to be black. Why not, it worked for Akeem.

I know this isn't exactly a nationality, but anytime someone who isn't from the southern United States tries to pull off the accent, it sounds extremely fake/terrible if you're from that area. I genuinely don't think I've ever heard a good one from someone who isn't from the south. It's either the extremely corny "Gone With the Wind/Southern Genetleman/Southern Belle" accent or the goofy, over the top, stereotypical redneck accent.

I got into it with someone on an FB group about "The 355" and how Lupita Nyong'o portrayed a British woman. I wish I made a comeback to that person about how a lot of Brits portray Americans. Hell, he also said something about Penelope Cruz, a Spaniard, portraying a Colombian in that film and that a Colombian actress should have portrayed that character.

What must have been the oddest for those filming it is Arrow on the Doorpost, S3 E13 of The Walking Dead.
The entire episode is Rick and The Governor having a sit down meet on neutral ground to try and fail to reach a peace with their two warring factions. Their soldiers are outside and have their own mini stories but 80% of the episode is Andrew Lincoln and David Morrissey talking to each other.
The show is set in Georgia, the show is filmed in Georgia, all the characters are from Georgia, a good portion of the crew and backstage people and probably all of the extras are from Georgia and they spent days probably filming this show of two men talking to each other in Georgia accents (which must have been good as no one complained) and as soon as the director yells "CUT" both men would switch back to their strong NW England accents.

Rosalind Chao (Chinese-American) as Keiko O'Brien (Japanese). I mean, virtually all successful actors and actresses of any East-Asian descent is going to play a wide array of nationalities. A brief reminder of her career, however, suggests that she may be a bit more selective (or her character’s nationalities are changed when she gets cast). Despite her most famous roles being Japanese (Star Trek) and Korean (M*A*S*H), she either tends to play explicitly Chinese characters or characters whose nationalities is nondescript.

That is how I knew the first time I heard Jamie Pressley talk she had to be from somewhere in the south. Oddly I have seen a good amount of actors from the UK that can do a decent Southern US accent.
