For me it has to be 1983. Pretty much the defining year of 80s music, enough glitz without being too polished.

1987. The year that had Michael Jackson’s Bad, True Faith by New Order, U2’s Joshua Tree, Sign ‘O the Times by Prince, Appetite for Destruction by Guns N’ Roses, Paid In Full by Eric B & Rakim, I’m Bad by LL Cool J, Girls Girls Girls by Motley Crue, Whitesnake’s self titled, Got My Mind Set On You by George Harrison, Everywhere by Fleetwood Mac, Alone by Heart, Def Leppard’s Hysteria, Faith by George Michael, REM’s Document, Wild Wild West by Kool Moe Dee, Actually by Pet Shop Boys. Just classic after classic, and I know I forgot a ton of stuff that went on to be pretty influential.

1986 was the year Master Of Puppets came out and to this day I think its the best album ever recorded in any music genre.
So yeah, 1986.
