Pele was one of the best international ambassadors of football/soccer in the sport's history. Not just because he was one of the best players to ever play, but because such a legendary player went all over the world to spread love of the game. From the USA to Africa, he didn't just stay in Brazil or only play for one of the big market teams in Europe. He was a truly global icon.
RIP sir.

GOAT FOREVER
simply the GOAT FOREVER
brazils 100th goal in the world cup that stupidity of the "runaround move" THEN MISSING THE BLOODY GOAL!!! (i always laugh at that) the save from gordon banks
IN ONE WORLD CUP!!!
first and upto this year only hat trick finalist his final match playing with both new york cosmos and santos in 1977 THREE WORLD CUPS
there is and will be NO ONE like Edson Arantes do Nascimento NO ONE

I know it’s said a lot but the term legend is used way too liberally in sports, but with Pele that word was very well deserved. That goal against Sweden in 1958 where he lifts the ball over the defender and volleys it passed the keeper is genius.
As others have said the header against England in Mexico City where he had stated to turn away in celebration only for Gordon banks to pull off a wordly of a save.
He was a genius of the beautiful game.

RIP to a legend. Even people in the US who are the most out-of-the-loop about international football know Pele.

Pele was retired well before I was ever born and he was still a guy that I had to see in action and appreciate his genius. I grew up in an America where futebol wasn’t exactly prevalent and I still knew who Pele was. There’s a lot of supposed legends in sport but few of them totally transcend all barriers be they cultural, racial, National, political, or any others, Pele did exactly that. An unbelievable talent and a giant in the sporting world. You could probably slot prime Pele into Brazil’s current National team and he would still be nearly unstoppable.

Another sad part about this is AJ getting hurt, or we'd see a Pele Kick on Monday for sure, especially with Don passing as well, with his classic "PELEEEE!!" call
RIP to a legend
