#63 - Superman: Unbound (HBO Max)
*1st Viewing
Yeah, this one was kind of just there and was a wildly middle of the road film. [**½]
#64 - Rain Man (HBO Max)
*1st Viewing
Yeah, that worked. I finally got around to seeing this and it hit me emotionally thanks to strong performances and some heartwarming scenes. [****½]

15. Spring Breakers - Watched this on Blu Ray. For some reason I had an itch to watch this. Was it because I listened to the soundtrack album today, which I own along with this movie? It had been a long time since I watched it. I also remember seeing this in theaters back in 2013.
This movie...is really hard for me to describe. Now I liked it when I saw it, and I still enjoy it. Hell, I find some kind of appreciation for the cinematography and a lot of the neon lighting that was used in various scenes, along with the natural lighting in other scenes. I also think that Harmony Korine was going for a story with a deeper meaning. Some would say that certain things are left to the imagination. Others may also think that it's a bunch of random things going on with a hedonistic theme to it.
Personally, I can enjoy this movie for whatever meaning it was going for or to just chuckle at some of the random scenes. However, I find it hard to recommend unless someone is familiar with Korine's work, especially when he wrote the likes of "Kids" and "Ken Park." However, this movie isn't as disturbing as those two, then again, this was directed by Korine, not Larry Clark (although I did see "Gummo," which was a weird movie in and of itself, which was directed by Korine).
Again, I enjoy it for various reasons, but it's hard to recommend in some areas.

7. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) 8. The Suicide Squad (2021) 9. FernGully: The Last Rainforest (1992)Another movie I've been wanting to re-watch for awhile and stumbled across it on YouTube. So in this a sexy fairy girl shrinks down a sexy lumberjack boy, but before they can have sexy times together a goo monster and a Robin Williams Bat get in the way. Tale as old as time. Related question, who do you guys thinks would win in a fight, Batty Koda or Bartok the Magnificent? 10. Attack of the Crab Monsters (1957)Another find on YouTube. This is an old 50's, black and white Roger Corman directed monster movie that stars the Professor from Gilligan's Island. I mean, I could tell you more, but if that last sentence doesn't sell this movie for you, then nothing will.

#1 was "Evil Dead II". It was fun, but I prefer the original. #2 was "Batman" I guess as part of my inofficial rehabilitate-Tim-Burton month. Very fun, very theatrical. No nuance, but I prefer popcorn cinema that way. #3 was "Mars Attacks!". Didn't realize it was this old (1996). I had very fond memories of it and it's still entertaining, but the story was tighter in my memory. One thing that didn't change: Tom Jones is great. May he live forever.

This is a fine movie and I don't have much else to say about it. It's forgettable but pretty good overall. [***]

I think I didn't see these because they came a bit too late into my teens. This is cringe as hell but also weirdly fun and hilariously bad in some parts in an entertaining way. [***]

Way better than I expected. Like a lesser Big Hero 6 but still one with a lot of heart, strong voice acting, and pretty animation. [***½]

8. The Suicide Squad (2021) 9. FernGully: The Last Rainforest (1992)10. Attack of the Crab Monsters (1957) 11. A Night in Casablanca (1946)Another movie I've stumbled across on YouTube and figured, since I've never seen a Marx Brothers movie before, I'd give it a go. The movie is weird. The Marx' feel at complete odds with the more serious nature of everything else happening in the movie. The plot heavily centers around a soldier named Pierre and how he and his secretary fiance Annette are trying to prove his innocence for a theft he supposedly committed during the war. But the movie seems almost annoyed at having them there at all, as they disappear for large chunks of it without explanation and plot points they're involved with have no resolution whatsoever. That said, the Marx Brothers antics were pretty hilarious and I guess that's what the people in 1946 went to the theater to see so I can't complain too much.

16. Starship Troopers - Watched this on DVD. So I had the three-DVD set of the three live-action movies (then there were the animated films, which I may get to) from the library. I may watch the other two soon, but I will talk about this one first.
I remember this being panned back when it came out, but over time I think it had gotten some more appreciation. It would almost seem that because this was a satire on the military, some people missed the point but then you had it shot like any other sci-fi action movie. Eh, for what it is, I was able to appreciate the satire as well as the action.
I also find it funny about the casting of the characters. The main actors were too old for the roles they were playing and I am not sure if they were really supposed to be the ethnicity of where they were supposedly from. Not going to get political about what some Argentinians look like, I just made an observation.
As for the action and effects, some of the CGI is noticeable, but Paul Verhoeven did fine with the direction. I could never complain when it comes to action from him.

#69 - Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (Theater)

I thought this was well paced as it never felt too long, I loved Jonathan Majors (Newton and Rudd were great too), and it has some fun aspects. However, the story is kind of just there, it's mostly just a commercial to advertise Kang's next adventure, and it's kind of ugly for a $200 million movie. [***]

17. Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation - Watched this on DVD. I have seen my share of straight-to-video sequels. There are some that I enjoy. There are others that I don't enjoy. This example falls under the latter.
I know that this movie didn't have the budget the first film had. I thought maybe some fun could be had despite how low in budget it was. The problem was that I wasn't sure what it was trying to be. On one hand, there may have been some action scenes, but at times it felt like a horror movie. Hell, it felt like it used elements from "Alien" and "The Puppet Masters" (which I remember watching on TV way back when, and it's also an adaptation to another Robert Heinlein novel). The lighting felt too dark. Maybe it was supposed to give it more grim feel? I don't know.
All I could tell you is that I was not feeling this. Hell, even seeing Kelly Carlson (as in the woman from "The Marine" and "Nip/Tuck") naked wasn't enough to save it.

9. FernGully: The Last Rainforest (1992)10. Attack of the Crab Monsters (1957) 11. A Night in Casablanca (1946) 12. Max Reload and the Nether Blasters (2020)I forgot to cancel my Night Flight Plus subscription after the three month 99 cent trial. It's only $4.99 so I'm not too torn up over it, but I figure I should use it for something, and I found this, which has Kevin Smith and Cobra Kai's Martin Kove in small parts. So a lost, cursed 80's ColecoVision video game is found and loaded up onto the internet and starts turning people who play it into video game zombies (I think). It's now up to the games two original creators and a trio of video game store employees to stop the zombies, beat the game and save the world. I know I wrote this is from 2020, and that's what IMDb says, but Kevin Smith is looking pretty chunky here, so I'm guessing that at least his scenes were filmed before his 2018 heart attack. This movie is pretty bad. It's pretty low budget so expect Asylum films quality special effects. There really is not enough material for its hour and forty minute runtime. It tries to fill it with inane dialogue that meanders on way too long, and gamer and geek culture jokes, which are no where near as funny as the movie thinks they are. And an exceedingly long post-credit blooper reel. The best character is the ditzy delivery guy Steve, played by Martin Kove's son Jesse, and they kill him off midway through (he gets better). The other characters are just really unlikable, including the token gamer girl who is so much hotter and cooler then anybody else in the movie you really wonder why she's even hanging out with these losers. It does have it's moments and you can see the kernels of a much better movie in it, but it really needed a couple of passes through some much more experienced script doctors to turn it into something worthwhile.

There are a LOT of good ideas in here and it's intriguing throughout but it never reaches greatness and you can see the ending twist coming a mile away. [***]

8. Enola Holmes 2
The continuing adventures of Sherlock Holmes’ little sister. It was fun and the cast was likable and seem to be enjoying themselves. There were a couple of “That is stupid. Why are they doing that?” moments and they could cut the “Enola talks directly to the camera” scenes by about half, but overall I found it very entertaining.

11. A Night in Casablanca (1946) 12. Max Reload and the Nether Blasters (2020) 13. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023)First time back at the theaters since, I think, Wakanda Forever. Although that's not really saying much since there really hasn't been anything released I've wanted to see since. So this movie had some issues, but over-all I thought it was a weird, fun little movie. Felt kinda like they plunked Ant-Man into the middle of a Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

Beautiful movie. Lovely soundtrack. Great characters. One of the few movies where a scene got me a lump in the throat.

18. Starship Troopers 3: Marauder - Watched this on DVD. The first thing I want to say is that this is an improvement over the second film, but not by a lot. Okay, maybe a little more than that. The point is, this movie may be a bit better than "The Hero of the Federation," I still don't think it's good.
Okay, on one hand, this film tries to go with a satirical approach that the first film had. Being that the first film was an adaptation of a Robert Heinlein novel and was a satire as well, this film tried to go with its satire on the military and politics, and also religion. Also, it was nice to see Casper Van Dien return as Rico. There were some references to the first film, but I wonder if someone wanted Denise Richards to return, but I can't say.
Also, because this was straight-to-video, I expected the CGI to look bad, especially for the bugs. I was right. I felt the action was...passable for what it was trying to do.
On the other hand, not sure how this film was trying to satirize religion, but with that subtext, it got kind of annoying after a while. Then you had something to help set up the big climax at the end, but it was introduced towards the end. There should have been some foreshadowing.
All I can say is that if I have to choose to watch either 2 or 3 again, I would go with this one. I still don't think it's great. I wasn't a big fan of it, but I damn sure would rather watch the third film before I would revisit the second film. Of course, I would gladly revisit the first film, but out of the sequels, I would choose the third.
Oh, wait, there are two more films after this, and they are animated. I might give myself a little break before I check them out. I guess it shows how watching the two sequels burned me out a bit.

My first time watching this since theaters and I still think this is super underrated by most. It starts as a basic adventure but gets better as it goes on and hits hard emotionally in the end. [****]
