Folks on top of the very serious allegations against Darby Allin we cannot ignore the fact that he is a 29 year old man pretending to be a 23 year old man who is furious at 21 year old Cora Jade for not being a "real" skateboarder.

As crazy and entertaining as Darby matches can be, there's always going to be the allegation in the back of my head. Unfortunately, it's a he said, she said thing that can't ever really get any closure one way or another because there's no evidence to either back her up or prove Darby's innocence. Yeah, it's why I don't think this is a case of "(the collective) you just like Darby, so you're giving him a break" for most people; most of the wrestlers who've gotten the most (deserved) grief for their sins are the ones for whom we've heard or read corroborating accounts and/or "seen the receipts" or what have you. One can take the accounts of people who come forward and take them seriously while still feeling there's some cases where you're kind of stuck in a he said/she said scenario. The fact we didn't get more accounts likely also contributed to the story not sticking around; when more people come forward to confirm the worst about an abuser, it not only offers more information and context but also keeps the issue in the headlines. The accusation against Darby definitely sticks in my head and has likely played a role in my not being as into his work as I think I otherwise would be, but I also don't view the situation with him the same as those involving names like Joey Ryan and others, for whom we've not only seen corroboration but also had it pretty well confirmed that their actions were on another level of heinousness...obviously what Darby's accused of is ugly, but the stuff Joey Ryan did is very cut and dry, while I've seen many take Darby's story as "this might've just been a toxic relationship". Basically, I understand people not being able to enjoy Darby based on it, but I also get people for whom it's not the same as some of the other Speaking Out stories out there.

Iirc Darby admitted that he wasnt in a good place before joining AEW, if he was a complete pos now he wouldve been fired because AEW has now talent that could replace him, Ive seen some bring up Jimmy Havok when AEW also tried to push him before Speaking Out happened and he got released because he quit rehab.

Not to undermine the whole "More popular people got off scott free" thing with Darby being a possible factor as to why so many people are giving him a pass (because I do think that factors into things), but I also think people now undersell how popular Joey Ryan and especially Marty Scurll were before they got outed as scumbags. Marty was as much a member of The Elite as Cody and Hangman (he even made a cameo on AEW-era BTE) and was head booker of ROH. WWE and AEW both had interest in him and he was set to really break out as a big star.
David Starr, not as much popular as he had something of a reputation of being a jackass even before his allegations came to light. But he was making a lot of noise about wrestlers unionizing and that was making him something of a folk hero among fans until, well, you know.

Yeah, Marty's last BTE appearance is hilarious because it's him showing up and the Elite all ignoring his presence.

I completely zoned when the title match happened and was stunned that he won because I figured Joe was a shoe-in to keep winning and that says a lot about how much I just ignore Darby's existence in AEW I guess. Nah I'm good. Sometimes a relationship being horribly toxic doesn't actually absolve anyone because even if two people are abusing each other, all you've got at that point is two abusers hurting each other instead of dragging down some innocent person each, there's no glory in that.

Why the f*** does almost every abuser, alleged or confirmed, on this forum get relentlessly criticized for it but Darby gets a pass from people on here. I'm barely ok with the guy being on television, let alone holding titles. And people are suggesting he move into the Main Event? Imagine the day he wins the world title and he's trending on Twitter (if it still exists) for all the wrong reasons as the allegations get dug back up. If Tony wants to groom Darby for that level, he better order the kid to do some real f***ing serious accountability. Confess, apologize, commit to therapy around the issue, donate a portion of his salary to women's shelters, if Hawlee Cromwell is open to it some voluntary restorative justice would be good. The whole nine. I just don't get why this guy gets a magic pass. It's absolutely not a free pass on my end and if anything concrete is revealed then I'm with you. With this one though, there's been nothing found after it was investigated and Gigi Dolin/Priscilla Kelly has stated there was no abuse when they were married and only split due to their careers going separate ways. Now of course just because one person didn't suffer abuse doesn't mean another didn't, but this is still in that sketchy area of "he said, she said" and I wouldn't be opposed to it being looked into again, but until then I'm not gonna demonize the guy either until something is revealed.
