And this is why I don't look back on The Rock vs Cena feud so fondly, because of cringey shit like that.

Like, it worked because those two matches drew a ton of money and mania 28 is the biggest buyrate for wrestling ever.

But when you look back at it, it’s all so obviously just a vehicle for Rock to relaunch his career as the ultimate manly action hero after trolling in the mud of Disney family comedies beforehand.

I think the biggest thing I disliked about it, among other things, was just the dishonesty. I remember people trying so hard to bend over backwards and say the Rock's promos on Cena weren't leveraging homophobic humor, etc, like "no, see, he called him Fruity Pebbles because colorful shirts", as if we didn't know "Fruity" wasn't a random choice, as if he didn't spend the majority of his career cutting promos about his opponents' candy asses, etc.

That's not me trying to make some character judgment on Rock, The Person, who considered Pat Patterson a mentor and learned a great deal from him, but... I have eyes and ears and knew exactly what he was saying, why it was meant to get a rise.

Feel like Hollywood Rock is about the only time Rock's ever actually been remotely entertaining to watch because the stuff he was saying and doing had an actual point behind it instead of just, "I put a couple of funny words together and counted on my charisma to make them not sound completely f***ing stupid."
