My concern for the BP voting is that two non traditional movies for very different reasons may split enough votes to hand it to a more traditional winner. Everything Everywhere might be strong enough to hold on…but Maverick is the class of the modern blockbuster and in a swoop honors not only Cruise’s decades of hits but the Academy’s failure to honor blockbusters with top prizes almost always. I can see a good portion of the voting body being split between which thing they want to reward. The boundless creativity of a sci-fi indie or the success and quality of the hit blockbuster. Sometimes they show up late and give awards for things they missed out on. Crash beat Brokeback Mountain because the Academy wasn’t ready to reward the vastly superior gay movie. Years later…Mickey Rourke got screwed because they made up for it with Sean Penn in Milk. Maverick is their chance to undo not nominating Dark Knight and for Fury Road winning for every aspect of filmmaking except best picture. I don’t think Maverick has a chance to win the award…just to dent Everything Everywhere enough that it won’t either. Make up for Mad Max: Fury Road not winning? Fury Road was beyond boring and didn’t deserve to win any way you look at it. Please don’t quote my posts with terrible opinions

I think Paul Mescal is gonna pull the upset. That was a great performance IMO and its a really tight race this year

Naatu Naatu has to win best song.
Yeah, RRR not being nominated for Best International Feature is insulting.

Former Talking Head, David Byrne going for his second Oscar win! Don’t know how good his chances are this time, but always cool to see a musician I’m a fan of getting Oscar nominations. ![](https://i.postimg.cc/L8zqwVbq/8757867-A-3978-4-AA3-BA6-E-E0-FD2-AC43-CCD.gif)

RRR not getting a nomination in either Best Picture or Best International Feature is ridiculous, especially given Avatar's nomination.
Pulling for Fraser, Yeoh, Quan, and Bassett in the acting awards.

Glad to see Bill Nighy getting a nod. He won’t win but still happy for him.

Nope being completely snubbed is baffling to me. Even/Especially from the technical aspects.

He won’t win, but I’m rooting for Judd Hirsch. Always was a fan of his, great in pretty much everything he does, and he’s an Emmy and Tony award winner, so he’d get the rare triple crown of acting. Plus he was nominated 42 years ago for Ordinary People.

Nope being completely snubbed is baffling to me. Even/Especially from the technical aspects. He made a movie about the Hollywood erasure of minorities and how it chews up and spits people out in the service of providing spectacle. They give awards to movies about Hollywood freeing hostages.

Nope being completely snubbed is baffling to me. Even/Especially from the technical aspects. The Academy hates horror that it can't parse through the lens of a "foreign movie" to begin with. Add into that that the entire movie is a great big "f*** you" to Hollywood's erasure of minorities and exploitation of both people and animals, and yeah, Peele never stood a chance. Still bullshit, but completely explicable bullshit.

The fact that he stuck to genre films was already an indication of that.

Not that it's any consolation but RRR only got snubbed on Foreign because India didn't send it as their countries representation, they sent in a film called "The Last Film Show" en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chhello_Show

I'm not really interested, I'm hoping that Short Round wins Best Supporting Actor. He's won every Supporting Actor award to this point. He's got the Oscar locked up. If he doesn't win, some shit went down behind the scenes to f*** him over.
