same this is the biggest omission i can see so far Even more than Andrea Riseborough seemingly coming out of nowhere to get the last Best Actress spot over Viola Davis or Danielle Deadwyler? Didn't watch.

This feels like yet another year of particularly underwhelming Best Picture nominees. Granted, of the 10, I've only seen Elvis and Top Gun: Maverick. But while I enjoyed Top Gun: Maverick for the fun popcorn flick that it was, at no point did I think to myself, "I'm watching an Oscar nominee right now." It was clearly given the token "this has no chance of winning, but we're nominating it in the hopes that people will watch our award show" nomination. Elvis, on the other hand, was shockingly lousy and on par with Bohemian Rhapsody in this new era of biopics that play fast and loose with the truth in service of making what's perceived to be a more entertaining film.
I think I'm interested in catching All Quiet on the Western Front, but considering it's been available on Netflix for some time now and I haven't found myself all that curious about watching it, I really wonder if I ever will see it. The same goes for The Banshees of Inisherin, which HBOMax has been telling me, "C'mon, you're really gonna want to watch this one!"
I do actually want to see Women Talking and Everything Everywhere All At Once once they hit a streaming service. And the remaining four nominees - Tár, The Fabelmans, Triangle of Sadness, and Avatar: The Way of Water - are all varying levels of "Nah, I'm probably never going to end up seeing this one."

This batch of nominations is the highest number ever for Irish filmmaking. I think there's 14 in all, so I'm hoping we can take 1 (maybe 2?) home.
Considering it's the first time a movie performed as Gaeilge is being represented, it's great to see An Cailín Ciúin get a nod for Best International Feature. It's a killer's row in that category though, so I'm not going to bank on it getting the win.

How did Blonde get nominated for anything? Blonde was the biggest trash bag of hot steaming ass. Ana de Armas was amazing in it. Like, the movie is f***ing godawful, but Ana was incredible as Marilyn. Fortunately, that's the only nomination the movie got.

Since the Oscars are on this weekend, I thought I’d rank the films nominated for best picture that’s I’ve seen.
1. The Fabelmans 2. Everything Everywhere All at Once 3. Top Gun: Maverick 4. Elvis 5. All Quiet on the Western Front

Banshees has to win something. That film was great, and I only knew it existed because of Gleeson hosting SNL. EEAAO was good too, but I was a bit disappointed after it was done, seeing as people were hyping it up a ton. My biggest takeaway from that film was how underrated Stephanie Hsu’s performance was. No one really talked about her and Jamie Lee Curtis was winning supporting actress awards for a 1.5 note character.

I don't know what Austin Butler is like as a person, but outside of that I'd generally root for all of the guys up for Best Actor. Will be cool whoever gets it.

That’s Del Toro’s third Oscar win. Not bad for a guy who loves horror and spent a lot of his career making the kind of movies that won’t get this kind of recognition.

Dwayne Johnson in that coat, makes me think he's gonna announce his retirement from acting, then when John Cena comes up on stage, Dwayne hits him with a World's Strongest Slam and declares he has a lot left in the tank.
