I mean he’s essentially retired now and I suspect that he’ll just get busier with his acting gig. I imagine he’ll pop up here and there over the next few years but never for an extended run.
I’d like him to eclipse Flair’s number of reigns because that’s just about all that Ric can lay claim to anymore, but that would probably only happen if Vince takes back over…talk about a Monkey’s Paw. 😮

I want to say I’d love to see him go out on one last run with a heel turn ending in a redemption and retirement but Roman’s long ass reign has soured me on that idea. Hollywood Cena with his own nWo-esque power stable would have been fun with him leaning into being the ultimate hypocrite in criticizing the Rock for leaving for Hollywood. He wouldn’t have to be there every show and instead could appear via satellite and let the rest of the group do the heavy lifting…before they have enough and kick his ass…leading to the Rumble return, redemption at Mania and then maybe he holds a John Cena Invitational tourney for the belt after he retires and gives up the belt.

The above tweet he seems to be teasing it. If he loses to Theory, I don’t see him coming back. Ideally, he’d win #17 at the Royal rumble and drop it to Cody at Mania 40 (20 years after his first mania match). I'm good with Cody winning the title at Wrestlemania for a 2nd time. That's two too many.

Cena could probably wrestle for another 10 years if he wanted.
I don't think he'll ever be full time again, but sporadic appearances will be easy.

Cena retiring after wrestling Theory would be like Hogan retiring after wrestling Alex Riley. What a waste. Hogan’s last match was a 6 man tag where his opponents were Mr Anderson, D-Von Dudley and goddamn Luke Gallows. Say what you will about Hogan but even he deserved better than to face one of the f***ing Good Brothers in his last hurrah. The Hulkster took no part in that match, he was kidnapped by the other members of Aces & Eights before the bell rang. His last match was tagging with James Storm and Sting against Kurt Angle, Bobby Roode and Bully Ray at a House Show in Manchester, England.

I spent most of my teens and younger years booing the shit out of this guy and hoping literally anyone but him would become champion but I think the right thing to do is give him one more title run, if only for a month or so. Have him go out losing to someone to really put them over but he deserves a last hurrah if anyone ever did.

I would ahve given him a seventeenth title reign before he retires for good... but other than that no more work shoot matches against Roman...
I can't take any more... "Business... business... numbers business..." "I DISAGREE!"
I pinned you in a match which means everything you said that was objectively true is now false...

There's one obstacle left. One dragon left to slay. Before he calls it quits. He must face his greatest foe. The one man he could never defeat.
He must face Kevin Federline again!

Give him number 17, he deserves the record.

As much as I'm not a fan of him these days, they'd be batshit not to run back Cena vs Punk one more time.

I get why he’d want to go the Jushin Luger route of primarily putting talent over after years of mostly super strong booking, but they’ve played up Cena’s desire to show why WWE calls him the GOAT and his frustration over his singles losing streak that I don’t think fans or longtime Cena detractors would be pissed if he, say, went over or won and then vacated the US belt or something for his finale.

I've said this for years, WWE's treatment of Cena, after how Taker, Austin, Rock etc have been is super weird to me. I'm not even expecting Superman Cena again but it just feels like Cena losing should mean more than it does and it doesn't. So yeah, if, say, Cena won the US title and vacated it, I'd be down. Give him something to chew on instead of "Austin Theory poked him a bit" and boom, match!

Cena's post full time booking has been absurd.

Give him number 17, he deserves the record. I say it everytime but it baffles me that they'd prefer problematic Ric to keep the record over respectable Cena. Especially now there's the consolation belt available.

Cena's post full time booking has been absurd. And what gets to me is that Cena was the guy that got WWE out of the post MNW rut and helped them get as profitable as they are now. I can’t imagine a WWE where they fired John Cena in 2003, it’s the biggest What If scenario since “What if Steve Austin wasn’t poltic’d out of WCW?”

Lesnar's squash of him at Summerslam 2014 was the last time a Cena loss felt like a big deal with the subsequent ones not really feeling big (Reigns, Theory) or being canceled out by an unnecessary win later (Styles).

If memory serves he wore red jogging pants and barely did anything but the roof blew off the place anyway.
