Changing a title (even if that in itself is a good move) just to tie in with some movie is some WWE shit It wasn't just to tie it in with the film, they probably were going to change it anyway since everyone clowned the original, they just were probably asked by Warner to tie it into the movie about change as an outstanding moral That's how Khan said it, they were leveling up the title much like how Billy turns into Shazam. It's harmless synergy, not a Mountain Dew Pitch Black match lol.

No wrestling company is really excluded from this when it comes to corporate synergy At least it's not Miz and Priest getting eaten by Zombies for a random Snyder film that had Batista in it, or TNA's enormous ring ads or when Anthem first brought them and had that owl everywhere...

Sorry, that came across snarkier than I intended. I just like that AEW is like a little pro wrestling niche and WWE appealing to mainstream is part of what has turned me away from it.

I think AEW has done it in fun ways that at least make some sense, like Jurassic Express and Bear Country being a Godzilla vs Kong sponsored match, or the Basketball Rampage with Elite and AR Flight I think the most it ever really interfered with a show is Satnam's debut to be a way to make Discovery happy and go along with their international brands and how they have a huge India audience, but Satnam himself has turned into an entertaining presence so that helped

I guess Solomon is from a different country than Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury. It's also a better name than "Mostly Greco-Roman Title" would have been.

I will never forget people trying to insist that "all-atlantic" was a real term and the name made sense

I will never forget people trying to insist that "all-atlantic" was a real term and the name made sense From a wrasslin standpoint I thought it did, I also liked the AAC acronym But this is definitely just an overall improvement. Id if Tony decided on it or someone pitched it to him and he gave in but props. It helps a belt that's got a lot of momentum come off even better

It was very dumb to call it the All-Atlantic title when it has the Japanese flag on it. Much better name now.

Yo that announcement was straight out of Eric Andre or some surreal shit. “LEVEL UP”
Glad it’s titled what a bunch of peeps thought it should have been called from the start. Thanks Shazam.

Maybe Sting will get a shot, being one of only 4 men to hold the WCW International championship.

Tony Khan's just got some weird f***ing energy, man. He's clearly passionate and I'm so grateful for what he does, but he's f***in' weird.

Kind of a lateral move to me, I never had a problem with the All Atlantic name tbh. So cool I guess?

I kind of liked All-Atlantic. Yeah it didn't make a whole lot of sense but it was unique; you hear it and you associate it with AEW straight away. International Championship sound much more generic. But it aint really an issue for me, will get used to the new name anyway

Still think it's like something WWE would do I largely stopped watching WWE for the similar reasons (also the godforsaken overuse of AR/CGI). I think this would have annoyed me way more if the belt had a Shazam lightning bolt on it, or was called the Fury of the Gods Championship, or something.

AEW could use a “commissioner” or a spokesman for announcements like this but I’m ok with getting a quizzical WTF chuckle out of it too.

Makes him so much more relatable to me. Like we already know he was a hardcore eFed guy and knowing he acts like one of us if we all the sudden had a camera in our faces lol

Does this mean who ever is champion will have to yell International? No, but the only way to win the title is to get your opponent to say "International!"

You know how in old-school WWF the IC title was usually the Worker's belt, and in Crockett/WCW the TV title was the Worker's belt?
That's sort of how I see the All Atlantic/International title. I'm totally okay with Swerve being the one who gets the belt off OC, but it needs to almost always go to someone who can go out and have good to great matches with anyone, anywhere. New Japan, RevPro, AAA, EVOLVE, GCW... anywhere. Not saying that Swerve isn't that good, because he absolutely can go, I'm thinking in terms of after him.
