I'm kind of keeping an eye on that but a lot of it seems less like he really specifically did anything and more like the editor's trying to get something to stick on him. Open to having my mind changed on it for sure but at the moment it doesn't feel like there's really much to that one.

Yeah, the RCA video highlights both POVs from their respective YT videos on the situation, the editor looks much less flattering, openly getting plastered in her 'tell all' video, and was apparently under the influence in the DMS Quinton shared.

Kinda surprised their careers weren't over after the whole situation with Ding Dong and Julian from OneyPlays.

That's been brought up, this seems like the nail in the coffin GameGrumps sure haven't picked great friends... luckily it seems they've both avoided any major controversies themselves, now watch as I jinx it lol

I got into Jontron like right before all that shit went down so I had a very brief window where I watched through his stuff and then was done with him forever.

I do get really uncomfortable over the way a lot of this stuff plays out: on the one hand there are the genuine stories of abuse and exploitation and horrible, harmful beliefs that come out about certain creators, and I can't really blame people for hearing stuff like that and not wanting to support them anymore.
On the other, it's hard to deny there's too much of an audience that's basically just in this shit for the drama, and there's something really gross about that. It's how you get some creators whose work is perfectly fine, but because they're "cringe on Twitter" or whatever it gets them lumped in with literal abusers.
I suppose we have some of the same discourse in the wrestling space; there are cases of wrestlers who have been outed as genuinely awful people or outright predators, but there's also times we've got people saying they hate a performer or want them gone or whatever because...the person was annoying online or something? Not hateful, not really hurting anyone, but being a dipshit in some way.
Maybe I'm just an old man at this point, but I don't really see the point of getting wrapped up in the latter kind of situation. If a creator/performer/whatever is obnoxious or whatever but otherwise pretty harmless and doing solid work in their chosen profession, just ignore them on social media or whatever, problem solved. Obviously if it's someone who *is* causing real harm, that's an entirely different story.

Doesn't help that people absolutely are weaponizing cancel culture. I have seen my fair share of people being randomly accused of one thing or another and while it quickly came out that the accusations were false and intentional libel, it did stick around long enough to genuinely affected not only their livelihood, but their mental well-being as well. Hell, in most cases, the person allegedly being wronged had to publicly come out and say it's false, because someone was speaking in their name without their approval. And of course, since some people just cannot accept that they were wrong, many are still spreading false accusations as fact.
Bottom line: if any sort of accusation comes from a third party rather than the alleged victim, assume it's false until proven otherwise (and really "innocent until proven guilty" shouldn't just be a legal principle).
It can never be said enough: cancel culture is shit. Yes, there are a lot of people who cry "Cancel culture is out to get me!" when they have to face consequence for their actions, but there is an undeniable, disturbingly large amount of people who are just thirsty for complete strangers' blood and looking for any excuse to harass someone they know nothing about because someone somewhere accused them of something. And make no mistake, cancel culture absolutely is harassment.
If you are rejoicing at the thought of having an excuse to be shitty to another Human being while pretending this somehow makes you morally superior, if you are celebrating the fact that someone was victimized because it provides you with said excuse, you don't get to wag your finger at other people and act like you're a good person. Really, the very thought of "cancelling" a person, saying that you get to stop treating them as a Human being, is super messed up when you think about it, no matter what they may or may not have done. And to jump in joy at it and happily spam #SoAndSoIsCancelledParty and other similar buzzwords is downright perverse.

While I'm generally in favor of shitty people being called out, the number of times in the last few years that someone has been accused of something and the immediate public response has been "I always knew they were a piece of shit, they definitely did this" gives me the creeps. Yeah, people are not a court of law, we don't have any obligation to be unbiased, but still, treating an accusation as fact because you don't like the person being accused is a pretty slippery slope.

Why does the name Lindsay Ellis constantly come up? According to Lindsay previously, just being female on the internet and having opinions about media was enough to get her shitloads of hatred and abuse, which absolutely tracks and I believe entirely. Later, she watched an anime of some sort and said it was very similar to Last Airbender, and got called out for being very misinformed about the form, as both it, whatever it was, and Airbender were already based on archetypal anime tropes that exist in shitloads of anime. In fairness, she didn't react too well to this, and one of her responses was interpreted at the time as racism, but it was a pretty mild thing compared to the 'sexting minors' and 'racist abuse' level shit most of the people in this thread did. But the backlash was severe enough that she stopped operating her own Twitter account then basically shut it down, and left content creation entirely until relatively recently. Because Doug Walker was basically one of the main progenitors of men reviewing shit into a camera online, Lindsay was basically the main progenitor of women doing that, and so is simply too big and significant a name in that medium to not come up all the time. She also, as previously mentioned, just went dark when all this happened instead of getting combative and doing a whole video about how no EVERYONE ELSE is wrong, she just bailed. Which is like. A reasonable reaction which might have helped many of the creators named in this thread.

The Lindsay Ellis is one of the ultimate Streisand effects,it really was just a handful of people on twitter mad about her comment. Most people who watch(ed) her videos on youtube would have probably never heard about what she said if she never made her masked off video.

From what I understand it was way more than just a handful of people. Mostly the kind of people who'd deliberately present someone's actions (that they don't actually care about) in the worst light possible just so they can harass and abuse a woman

No idea why people think she blamed everyone else for stuff when, like, most of it is her going “My bad, shouldn’t have done that”. And really, she only does videos on Nebula now. I haven’t watched any of them but it’s her main focus besides being an author.
