I think this is really bugging me so much because it's really the final shot at killing all my interest in modern wrestling
Cody is basically the wrestling cuck now and it sucks

I'm kind of a casual now and I've just caught up with this... What the ever loving f*** are WWE doing? The match they’ve wanted to do for almost ten years now. This is what makes a fan revolt inspired pivot a little tricky. Rock is 52, career on the wane or not he will continue to get cast and spend most of the year shooting movies, he might even put long-rumored political ambitions into motion. Roman has one eye on a long retirement on the golf course, even after losing the title he is never returning to full time status (kayfabe or not why would he?). If Rock is stubborn the counter to the "But, the fans are pissed Dwayne!" is him saying, "If not now, when?" It's a key difference from 2014. Batista v Orton was easy to cancel as we'd already seen it six or seven times before.

Again not even Slaughter... he was an 80's wrestler... it's closer to like Backlund a 70's wrestler coming out of retirement and pushing Austin aside. I was kinda aiming for a dude that was roughly the Rock's age now. I was originally going to say Superstar Billy Graham but that sounded like too much of a reach. Or was it... lol. I'm not used to this level of batshit stuff actually happening. Last night's booking felt like a kid playing with his action figures. Superstar would have been 55 in 1998, and he won the title 1977 so yeah he would also fit. I went with Backlund specifically because they used him as the crazy old grandpa that was behind the times in 94.

DC can 😏 I saw Black Adam in theaters, I can say that. I saw Black Adam in theaters as well, and they really should have gone all in on Black Adam being a "destroy your oppressors" type. Would have tapped into what people wanted from a Black Adam movie that much better. and again what is he drawing? mania was already sold out. Wrestelmania is free on peacock. how does that translate into dollars? (and again most of his recent movies have flopped.)

Will say if nothing else, as someone who no matter the circumstances has always utterly loathed the entire concept of a Rock / Roman match and grappled to understand the appeal given how completely washed up Rock was a decade ago much less now, how shit most Roman Reigns matches are anyway, and the only connective fiber being, "They're related!", seeing the match lined up with everyone utterly pissed that they're doing it is satisfying. Not a match I'd ever, ever be willing to watch in the first place but the circumstances behind it make it a billion times worse.

Hogan was 48 when he faced The Rock in 2002. He could still go at the same level as ever and was the most over wrestler on the planet: not only that but he knew what he was good for and put guys over like hell.

he knew what he was good for and put guys over like hell. I mean he's the guy who was super insistent about wanting to be the first to beat Lesnar. He was putting people over but it definitely didn't come out of having been humbled over the years.

Hogan went above and beyond to put Rock over in that match, even with the Toronto crowd turning against Rock. This is the only time I’ll ever praise Hogan for something.

Hogan still worked an active-ish schedule during that run. He wasn’t coming back to wrestling after 11 years just to do a couple of matches tops. Although it’s funny because apparently Hogan DID try and get out of jobbing to The Rock at first.

I bet Bob Backlund would still put on a better match today than Dwayne

I mean it’s a triple threat right?
That’s the only way to do this.
Plus finishing the story one on one… Cody lost last year. Wins this year. Just makes things even. Cody winning would exciting sure, but the extra year besides Summerslam both Roman and Cody just spent the year spinning their wheels, waiting an extra year just shows they should have struck when the iron was hot. Now it just feels like a forgone conclusion, if they did one on one again, I guess they could set up a rubber match at summerslam this year.
Like Benoit at 20 or Danielson at 30. Make it a triple threat stack everything agaist them. That’s the only way to finish the story. Plus a triple threat could really protect the rock with his limitations.
Seth. Sucks the punk match didn’t work out but there’s an enough story on raw between Drew, Sami, and others there’s enough story to work with.

Now you guys are seeing what happens when a corporation runs wrestling. Logan Paul and the Rock alone put more eyes on the product than 10,000 Cody’s “finishing the story” would ever. But, give Cody credit, he’s gotten that over. I checked out social media last night and that had to be 90% of the posts.

He could still go at the same level as ever and was the most over wrestler on the planet: not only that but he knew what he was good for and put guys over like hell. Hogan in 2002 had the benefit of 1) WWE tapping into earnest nostalgia for the first time ever. Prior to buying WCW, anything that happened more than three month's before any given show might as well have not existed. This was the first time people could relive something they loved, something really needed after 2) the 9/11 terrorist attacks the previous September. Across the board in America we wanted to feel safe and have a familiar warmth of a more innocent age, and Hogan going classic Hogan was just want we needed to escape. The Rock didn't even get the mic on Friday to do classic Rock schtick, which may promo-wise have eased some of the harsh burn we're feeling today. We were supposed to be satisfied with the "idea" of The Rock than The Rock actually performing.
