Thanks, guys. I know anyone successful probably has a huge ego, but damn Dwayne.
I just imagine him showing a chart of Black Adam's box office reversed so it looks like a box office hit.

Can someone explain the 'Black Adam' thing to me, because I don't read comics and have no idea why this was a big deal. The Rock headlined a movie adapting a generally critically well-regarded comic arc from the 00's. Said arc was...an odd choice for standalone adaptation. It was part of a weird trend where Shazam's archnemesis was given more spotlight and treated as more of a main character and hero than Shazam, who rarely had his own comic in that decade. It was the sort of thing that went over alright with the comic fans who were there to see it grow organically, but got a big "Who cares?" reaction from anyone who didn't even hear about this character as a villain, much less as a hero. Then the movie did poorly and the buzz/news around it is all about how the Rock was trying really hard to use this as a launching pad to increase his influence over a major media property.

I think you could make it work if you maybe just run with the idea that he had a momentary lapse in confidence now that his goal was in his grasp, thinking about how it was yanked away last time, but now he's come to his senses. It's flimsy but Cody could sell it. Have Punk talk/slap some sense into Cody by telling him to not let what happened with him to happen once again. I really don't want Punk shoehorned into this. I think you basically have to have Cody come out and said "I stepped aside in the moment because Dwayne's the boss, Ari handed him an ownership stake in the company, he's on the board, and he said 'step aside, kid, this is my show.' But you know what? To hell with that. I don't care if he's the boss, I'm not letting him take this away from me."

"Dwayne tries to sell himself as bigger than the movie," an anonymous executive said. "He's one of the few people who always thinks he's the most important person in any situation or room." The executive added, "Instead of making a movie, he wants to extend his brand and make a brand centered on himself."
Sounds all too familiar.

Can someone explain the 'Black Adam' thing to me, because I don't read comics and have no idea why this was a big deal. To give more context. Black Adam is a Shazam villain(same powers, literally Evil Shazam) and its his ICONIC Rival. Its the Joker to Shazam's Batman. And Shazam is one of those that long time comic readers really like and want to see be given a fair shot. And Rock was cast in the role, except The Rock decided he didnt want to be a villain in a movie. He wanted his own movie, which he then wanted to lead into a movie against Superman, completely ignoring his origin. And the movie flopped, hard. And it also ended with the Shazam movie having a really lackluster story.

To the people advocating a Triple Threat match.
But what if The Rock goes over Cody and pins him clean as a sheet for the titles.
That would be worse than No Cody at all right?

And the movie flopped, hard. And it also ended with the Shazam movie having a really lackluster story. I want to throw in a personal comic book fan rant about how it's not like Black Adam being treated as a hero was 100% on Dwayne. Adam was the precious baby pet character of Geoff Johns, the guy who was put in charge of how DC properties get adapted and whose decision is, nearly 100% of the time, "make it whichever version I wrote." (That worked great for Aquaman, disastrously for Green Lantern, decently enough for The Flash on TV, poorly for The Flash as a movie.) The big Black Adam story arc adapted for the movie, while being a story arc that got me to quit reading the comic it was published in, was one of Johns' signature stories. Many of the problems with the movie were pretty likely to arise from an entirely separate egotist that the Rock's demands were relatively compatible with.

No Cody is a kick in the balls, The Rock pinning Cody is having your balls strapped to a car battery. Someone (Vince, I guess) looked at the idea of Shane getting his nutsack fried on national TV and said, "great idea!".

It's amazing any time anything like this happens you always get the same two really smug group of people 1. "YOU ASKED FOR THIS YOU MARKS ARE NEVER HAPPY" 2. "I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU MARKS ARE FALLING FOR THIS GREAT PR MOVE!" its the same idiot vomit that'll be spewed (and still be worth it) if this gets changed when someone brings up that cody should've won last year, they'll feel the pressure to pivot and people will be like "WE WANT CODY WOULD'VE NEVER HAPPENED WITHOUT IT,,, WAS THE RIGHT CALL,,,"
