Thanks to the many posters who gave an explanation of the whole black Adam stuff. I knew he was making the movie but honestly I didn’t care enough to see how it did when released. He comes off looking even worse.

Always the possibility that Triple H is watching this and is setting up a Yes Movement with Cody Rhodes to take the match to Wrestlemania, and will hopefully do subtle White Rabbit teases with Kazuchika Okada. The fans also propelled Kofi Kingston to 2019 WrestleMania. Remains to be seen.

The Black Adam thing is especially funny because if Rock hadn't tried to overplay his hand behind the scenes and hadn't been as insufferable during the promotion and after its release, he would have come away from it all fine. Black Adam didn't do well by any metric but it did far better than The Flash and Shazam did when it really shouldn't have. The movie failing would have been chalked up to a mix of superhero fatigue, poor marketing, and it being a little-known mainstream character but instead, all of the articles afterward had the knives out for the Rock.

Personally I stand by the initial sentiment of the thread, and still think the way Mania and the subsequent follow-up was made Cody look absolutely terrible, that any lesser performer it would've completely killed their drawing power, and the entire conceit of delaying an extra year was completely braindead (ESPECIALLY in hindsight), but also I feel like people've waaaaay beaten the Bitchhalla joke into the ground. Like I thought it was kind of an amusing one-off gag, and was going to continue to evolve it if necessary, but it gets brought up a lot in like totally unrelated contexts for no real reason.

The idea of Rock winning the belt doesn’t feel entirely out of the realm of possibility at this point. They could do Rock/Cody at MSG in Rock’s retirement match 28 years to the day he debuted for the company. Not what I want, but I feel like anything is in play.

It's the same nonsense as having Roman cheat worse than the Honky Tonk Man and constantly have babyfaces get visual pins on him, but making the announcers present him as a "God mode" world killer; that isn't a story. . not focusing on this particular match... This is probably the worst part of Roman's title run to me. The announcers are all like oh well he cheats but what are you going to do he's just better than other people. |
