To give more context. Black Adam is a Shazam villain(same powers, literally Evil Shazam) and its his ICONIC Rival. Its the Joker to Shazam's Batman. And Shazam is one of those that long time comic readers really like and want to see be given a fair shot. And Rock was cast in the role, except The Rock decided he didnt want to be a villain in a movie. He wanted his own movie, which he then wanted to lead into a movie against Superman, completely ignoring his origin. And the movie flopped, hard. And it also ended with the Shazam movie having a really lackluster story. I want to throw in a personal comic book fan rant about how it's not like Black Adam being treated as a hero was 100% on Dwayne. Adam was the precious baby pet character of Geoff Johns, the guy who was put in charge of how DC properties get adapted and whose decision is, nearly 100% of the time, "make it whichever version I wrote." (That worked great for Aquaman, disastrously for Green Lantern, decently enough for The Flash on TV, poorly for The Flash as a movie.) The big Black Adam story arc adapted for the movie, while being a story arc that got me to quit reading the comic it was published in, was one of Johns' signature stories. Many of the problems with the movie were pretty likely to arise from an entirely separate egotist that the Rock's demands were relatively compatible with. God I wish Green Lantern got adapted in a Geoff Johns way. Like it would have been an utterly unwatchable movie for anyone not reading the comics at the time but just do f***ing Sinestro Corps War into the whole shebang of the different corps and go for broke

So I saw "WeWantRocky" is trending and it's mainly a bunch of bots. It VERY much seems like he paid a bunch of bots as a PR stunt. This is not abnormal for companies to do, but you rarely see it for something that is not connected to some sort of commodity someone can buy. Judging by this stunt and Dwayne's weird other IG post where he shows some positive fan reactions, it just seems like he desperately wants the perception of everyone liking him

I actually think Rock tried really hard on Southland Tales lol and thought it would be his big break as a "serious" actor then when the reception was so bad it scared him off and he decided to just stick to family/action. It seems like he's finally going to attempt another more dramatic role though as he just signed on to star in an A24 movie from the director of Uncut Gems.
Killer Mike getting arrested the night he wins a bunch of Grammys is like something straight out of Atlanta. Maybe he got arrested for stealing Nas's Grammy? *ba dum tss*
As someone who has loved most of his albums I thought this one was mid, as MJF and the kids would say. If almost felt like the music version of an Oscar bait film (is Grammy bait a thing?). And a lot of his conscious rap stuff doesn't hit as hard as it used to with his actions the past few years. Hell he even features pieces of shit like Cee-Lo Green and T.I. on the album which completely contradicts some of the messages he tries to convey on other songs. Then again us as wrestling fans probably know better than most how often you have to separate the art from the artist.
...Wait, how did a Cody Rhodes thread end up about Killer Mike and Southland Tales??

I saw this match at the Madison Square Garden house show I went to last year, and I'm 100% sure they're gonna do the finish where Cody hits Nakamura in the groin with the bullrope before Cross Rhodes. Was that you who tweeted a video of it? Haha Yes, indeed it was. Oddly enough, that tweet was before Adam Pearce announced the bull rope match on Twitter.

Richard Kelly mentioned that he also, purposely, intended to cast nearly all his actors against type in "Tales". From what I remember, Kelly also wanted it to be Rock's dramatic breakthrough, but everything is so campy that I'm surprised it didn't turn into something on the level of "Showgirls" for everyone involved.
Hey, at least Wallace Shawn enjoyed making it. He was happy to be playing a (somewhat) serious role in a higher-budget movie for once. Inconceivable!

It gave us the Justin Timberlake lip synching to “All These Things that I’ve Done” scene.

It gave us the Justin Timberlake lip synching to “All These Things that I’ve Done” scene. Best scene in the film which really doesn't have a lot of other contenders.

Hasn't there been a bit of a groundswell in recent years to try and label Southland Tales as like a misunderstood classic? I remember trying to rewatch it 2-3 years ago and thinking no it really is just shit and not being able to finish it.
A more recent movie it sometimes gets compared to in Under the Silver Lake I think is a better example of a director following up a big breakthrough with a next movie that bombs on release but might end up with a better reputation in years to come.

There was a groundswell around the physical special edition of the director's cut that had a small theatrical tour. EDIT: I should mention that the groundswell divided the small fanbase itself as the loudest proponents were treasuring it as a camp classic and the Richard Kelley devotees were still taking it super seriously so they were at odds, kind of souring anyone not already a fan of giving it a look from what I recall.

This guy wrote a (crap) sitcom about himself, thinly veiled to be about his family, where he wrote himself to be the f***ing President. What goes on in that head must be a psychologists dream. Featuring the most ham-fisted Roman Reigns reference: Good f***ing god 😭🤣

Since this has devolved into "Dwayne Johnson is full of shit: A retrospective":
I laughed my dick off when he said he grew up reading Black Adam. Dude, you're 52 years old. IF you were reading any Captain Marvel stories at all when you were a child (and those sales figures were pretty bad, I'm willing to bet), you saw Black Adam as pretty one-note villain who was just "Captain Marvel, but EEEEEVIL"
You played Black Adam because someone somewhere did some fantasy casting with the Geoff Johns iteration and it gained some steam. GTFO with the "I read it as a kid" bullshit.

If Dwayne really wanted a marquee match that everybody wanted and wouldn't have pissed away the biggest storyline in the company, he should have booked himself vs Erick Rowan at 'mania. Everyone would have been stoked for that.

The answer to why Rock is doing this is very simple:
It's because he basically shattered his career in Hollywood, so he's coming back to wrestling in an attempt to REHAB his Hollywood image. I guarantee he'll leave the company again the moment he gets another prominent movie role. It cannot be understated how much Black Adam destroyed The Rock's image.
The problem is that Rock is just systematically awful for both Hollywood and wrestling at this point. He isn't going to bring in any more sales for Mania, because tickets are largely already sold out for both nights. And likely would be a complete sell out by showtime, even if he wasn't on the card.
