The more I hear, the more I think Rock is walking out with the belt, they do some sort of weird thing where Rock takes over the Bloodline and Roman goes face to get it back. That would be the one outcome worse than Roman retaining - a double turn with Roman doing nothing to get cheered except get betrayed, after years of being an absolute bastard and The Rock as a part time heel champion.

They're not pivoting. Anyone who's got that notion in their noggin needs to come to grips.

So the decision was made on January 3rd, and barely anybody knew, including the heads of creative? Triple H and Cody got okey-doked. Really, how the f*** does anybody trust Rock, Brian, and people above Hunter if this shit happens? They did this to the guy whose booking has gotten WWE red hot, and the top face in the company. They can do this to anybody. Bron gets red hot and ready to take the title, sorry, Rock wants it but don't worry he'll face somebody else. They don't correct course, and prove they won't pull this shit then they'll lose quite a few stars.
Seems like they already did pull this shit and at this point, when they're setting the standard for the new TKO-owned WWE, I don't know why anybody would trust them not to pull the same (or some other stupid shenanigans) in the future. It's not like the top brass (at the level of the guys who planned this without telling anybody) are going to change their attitudes, is it?

Honestly if the thinking is ‘at least this will get Cody more over’ then it’s insane. He’s already super over and he’s been pushed as the top guy since he came back (and in previous years the crowd would have turned on this already). So you are telling me that they think this super over, obviously pushed and never held back superstar - who has won back to back rumbles - is somehow supposed to be seen as a folk hero because he WILLINGLY (at least for now it seems to be willing because that’s what we saw on Smackdown) gave up his mania main event. I doubt whoever proposed it really believes it. It's a justification from someone who wants to try and launder tis idea as not being a total dump on Cody by claiming that he'll benefit from this. It's Vince's "I'll owe you one, pal" mind games all over again. If they wanted to make Cody look good, literally none of what actually happened would be the form this took. Nobody who made this decision actually cares about how Cody is going to come out of this, he's just the inconvenience in the way of making this match happen. When Bryan got turned into a martyr, he was coming off a losing feud and not even being in the rumble, penciled in for a nothing match against Sheamus. Cody got his match. Cody had the match and said 'nah'. It's so much dumber and worse.

I’ve not read the whole thing, so forgive me if it’s already been said, but from a strictly storytelling perspective, would it not make more sense to have Cody beat Roman for the title, throwing the Bloodline into chaos and leading to the Rock coming in to challenge Roman’s leadership?
I know, that means Rock vs Roman doesn’t happen at Wrestlemania. But Wrestlemania doesn’t need it and Rock vs Roman doesn’t need the title.

From the Twitter thread linked above/on the previous page it seems like it's part of The Rock's contract that the Mania match is going to happen regardless.
But I agree that would be a better way to handle it. One of the many better ways to handle it than the reality of what seems to be actually happening.

Well of course, but Dwayne isn't interested in what makes sense here. Much like, if he really wanted to help like he claims he is doing, he'd lend his name and box office to a show that needs help selling tickets, not the already nearly sold out Wrestlemania.

There are in fact several easy ways to handle a Rock-Reigns bout.
They just went for pretty much the worst way possible.

Soooo the Royal Rumble was entirely pointless. f*** off. Even assuming someone that isnt Cody won the Rumble. Why would they not choose to face Roman Reigns, especially now that the Bloodline is at its lowest?

I knew that the purchase was gohing to find some way to f*** things up, I just didn't think it woudl be this fast and this blatantly sneaky. Signing a secret contract for a Wrestlemania main event without even letting the f***ing booker know. It's crazy.

Wrestlemania doesn’t need it and Rock vs Roman doesn’t need the title. Rock needs it. He needs to save WrestleMania.
Some might say "want". I stand by need. He needs this to stroke his ego after Hollywood bruised it a little.

For a heel it could make sense to go after Rollins, it's acknowledged he's carrying injuries, he has no stable in support etc. it's a cowardly act. It makes zero sense for a babyface.

At this point, were I Cody, I’d just go wrestle Seth. The Rock and TKO management are probably so spiteful over this that if they did add Cody to the main event, they’d just have Rock pin him anyways.
Seth and Cody can use their time to build on what they talked about last week. Who cares about The Rock? Who cares about Roman? They’re gonna have their little match and then come April and May, they’ll be gone. The winner of our match will control the direction of this show coming out of Mania. If you plan to keep watching, this is the important one.
