It’s crazy that him rolling with the blows and staying composed basically amounts to him not being enough of an IRL “belt mark” to be super upset about it. Which is funny because “I’m such a belt mark I want to win the specific one Dad didn’t win” is like 90% of this on-screen story that has to be finished.

I think he saw how big of a legend his Dad was and he didn't build his legend by being World Champion for years and years. The American Dream was much bigger than any belt. In fact, all of Dusty's reigns were very short and just a high spot in a longer story. Cody has to know that.

Though, I think they want to make it official at the press conference on Thursday which will suck IMO.

As angry as people are right now, and I'm sure Cody is heartbroken too, the reality is that he's still getting a stupid fat paycheck after this is all over. I'm sure there will come a day when we hear his true thoughts, but unless he somehow hasn't signed a contract extension in the last month or two, we're not going to hear about it for awhile.

Oh I know the money probably is a nice safety net and cushion for the blow, but it's still something that's gotta be a severe letdown and just overall soul crushing given how much he's had to deal with to get to this point. Doing it all right and still getting kicked in the dick is just f***ed up especially with how it seemed to be done period.

That’s good. Nothing objectively against Meltzer, I just feel that if I worked for a company I’d want to keep an element of surprise for viewers to turn in for. And not have info leak.

Again, if I was Seth, I'd be legitimately pissed at how this has all played out. Cody will be fine no matter what because he's the handpicked guy. If you want to talk about what an actual burial sounds like on the microphone, Seth got pretty close to being buried.

There’s of course always Priest to piss in the cereal of that match with his cash-in, but 1) they’ve booked Priest to be even more of a bitch tier MitB holder than Theory, which is impressive how they managed to top THAT, and 2) it is at best a lateral move outcome to protect both Cody and Seth, and might even be worse than either of the 1 v 1 outcomes.

It is a bit odd when I think on it.

Like, Cody willingly hands that WrestleMania spot over. It's not taken from him (not in kayfabe!), he's not screwed over in a match. It's just, hey, here you go, Rock.

That's taking a real risk that people will rally behind him so strongly. and not instead think he looks really weak from it.
A risk that you don't have at all with a stolen/screwed over/whatever story angle.

I'm not quite buying that bit either. Seems way too open to backfire. I feel like Dave's being fed a line there.

Yeah, it's worth keeping in midn that in Roman's eyes, this turn of events is probably ideal. He gets his big match against the highest profile guy he's faced yet, probably goes over, and gets a massive feather in the cap of his career. I don't see him giving one shit about Cody's situation in this case, and if he does, well, he's got Heyman sitting behind him to shut that thought up and make him see the 'plus side'.

It's what this entire damn reign has been. Roman and Heyman shitting on everyone else at all times because the worse everyone else looks the more the two of them get paid to do the bare minimum a couple times a year.
