What if they have Cody win and then lose it to whoever has the MITB briefcase immediately lol Doubt that is going to happen, Damien Priest has been made to look like the dumbest motherf***er on the roster with his inability to cash in, and forgetting that with Seth injured has a contract to challenge a one legged man to an ass kicking contest that said one legged man cannot turn down.

Before all this, I thought Roman had a hell of a shot at retaining. I think he still does. But after all this, come on. I think you’ve gotta give it to Cody lol. Business wise, it can still lead to Roman versus The Rock at Saudi or SS. Absolutely does not need the title. Friend of mine is confident Roman’s retaining. We both have long hair and are teasing the idea of doing hair versus hair. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared shitless betting on Cody lol The only reason for Roman to retain is to break Hogan’s record. If they wanted him to retain, they would make it a triple threat with the Rock I feel like. At this point, this is Cody’s second straight shot after winning back to back rumbles and him losing again would be terrible writing. Cody is on fire right now and the fans DEMANDED this match. He HAS to win. This is also a decade anniversary mania which is where big shit happens and where the underdog prevails. If Cody doesn’t win this, the company deserves to go under He had to win last year too. I was as shocked as anyone when he didn't and I'm half expecting them to do it again this year.

I'm completely confused. Why did Cody give up the spot at WM in the first damn place?

I'm completely confused. Why did Cody give up the spot at WM in the first damn place? I’m kind of hoping/assuming it’ll be reveled that Rock manipulated him and then went behind his back with the board to steal the main event for himself. He realized what was happening and acted accordingly. This makes Cody look a little gullible but I mean Ric Flair betrayed Sting 8273726 times and that didn’t seem to hurt Sting too much.

What if they have Cody win and then lose it to whoever has the MITB briefcase immediately lol That’s actually not a bad idea, let Cody hold it for a week or so and then Damien cashes in, and Cody can chase him for a couple of months in a new story before he wins it back. It’d certainly make Judgement Day.

I still think it makes Cody look like a moron I have no clue what snake oil shit even in kayfabe Rock could have tried to sell Cody where CODY had to give up the Mania Main Event to Rock. Rock could challenge Roman at any time at any PPV, Cody had the spot for Mania He could challenge his ass at the Chamber, at Summerslam, etc, but it HAD to be Mania and Cody had to say "Aw shucks well I guess you can have it"? Even in the strictest kayfabe sense, where Rock is a manipulative douchebag, Cody looks completely braindead here giving up his Mania spot just to go "Heeey wait a minuuuute!" like six days later imo And they can't use a Blackmail excuse because Cody just came right out and invoked the match anyway and Rock was like "Fix it" to HHH, so really it's just all a mess and exactly why I will never believe this was "Always planned" but they're gonna just push forward and that's still the right move after Friday tbh

I very much think they need to have Cody talk about it.
I'd be guessing they'd spin it as along the lines of "huge respect for the Rock and giving him this spot, but I didn't realise he was going to be a total jerkass about it and buddy up with Roman for it" or something similar.
Anything will be a sticking plaster, but easier to do that after a week or so than if they'd stuck the course with it.
But I DO feel there's going to be more twists in this yet. They've seen how much of a firestorm this kicked off. I'm not expected eight or whatever weeks of promo battles then main event, at all.

A single line reminding us that he's not allowed to cash in on someone in the injured list (like when Daniel Bryan tried it on Mark Henry who both had a broken ankle and had been KTFO) would make him not look like a tool

I'm completely confused. Why did Cody give up the spot at WM in the first damn place? Real answer: bad writing. How they can fix it, as I mentioned many pages ago, is to just have Cody come out and say he thought he was doing the right thing for the fans and business by stepping aside. Hell, have him allude to AEW by saying he refused to challenge for the world title in other companies because he wanted to do the right thing for the fans even if it didn’t benefit him personally. He thought he was doing the same thing here, giving the fans a dream match, but when he saw the outcry afterwards, he realized he was disappointing the people he was actively trying to please. Not the perfect storyline reasoning but the only one I can think of that doesn’t make him look like a complete sap.

The only reason for Roman to retain is to break Hogan’s record. people keep saying this, but Hogan doesn't *have* a record. BRUNO has a record, and Roman ain't touching it.

Plus, add him mentioning he saw the Rock for who he truly is: a selfish son of a bitch who only cares for himself and not “The People” like he claims. That’s why he went on the stage and called Rock and Roman’s little love in a load of bullshit.

Kayfabe wise, I can't figure out why I'm supposed to be rooting for some dummy who gave up his spot he earned like a week earlier.
Unless The Rock had Pharaoh held hostage.

Pharaoh would bite Rocks pebbles off. Also, Cody’s dumb. He just is. He’s gullible. But that adds to his charm. Stardust. The mustache. Dashing. The Ogogo incident. Giving up his chance to win the AEW world title. He’s just kind of dumb, but we all kind of are. #Mericuh

Kayfabe wise, I can't figure out why I'm supposed to be rooting for some dummy who gave up his spot he earned like a week earlier. Unless The Rock had Pharaoh held hostage. There's ways out of it that would make sense. You could have Cody go out there and say Rock convinced him they'd take down Roman together, Rock being in the ring looking at Roman like "No, that's not true. I came back for the glory of our family, I was doing this for... all of us". Kinda like how Roman has always put his triumphs as being good for everyone when clearly dude doesn't give a shit about anyone but himself. Have a moment where Cody feels humbled and says "yes, I was tricked. I guess that's what they teach you in Hollywood but I'm not Hollywood", talk about similar hardships to his dad, the common man (common people even, pulp rules lets go) and how "even though I have the movie star looks" (pauses for the crowd to cheer and laughs at himself) "I am a wrestler. I've been here every day, I'll be here every day and I'll be damned if this story won't end up better than any bullshit you've been in the last 20 years". Instantly makes him more relatable to the audience, explains the reasoning, puts over Rock as a master Hollywood exec manipulator and sets the stage. The stage for the glamorous 200+ people deep royal family that has held all the title against the hardworking 5+ people deep (UN PLOMBIER NIGHTMARE) royal family to be crowned. The last prince, the only king left. It has to be now. There is no time left. The crown must be taken.
