Had never thought of it before this thread, but it is really weird how often Matt is talking for his brother in these situations.
The speculation that maybe Matt keeps pushing him to do this when he just wants out has an eerie plausibility to it.

I feel like if Jeff wanted out, he'd be out already Like keep in mind Jeff wrestled in WWE and Impact plenty of times without Matt there at all Matt might be an influence to keep Jeff going, but ultimately I do think Jeff just loves wrestling and sees it as part of his life

I don't necessarily think he just wants out (though I wouldn't be surprised if his wife and kid want that for him), but I also don't think he wants to push it nearly as hard as Matt does (well, that much is obvious, though).

I think he wants his brother to be happy and healthy..but that latter part, wrestlings bad for that in multifaceted ways. I’m sure the money is an incentive, we’re all human, but.. yeah.

Reportedly, back when Matt was single-handedly carrying TNA, TNA lowballed him and tried to make a move to just keep Jeff, essentially. Jeff passed up the deal to go follow his brother onto the indies for a while before WWE picked them up for a reunion that it was kinda clear wasn't why WWE wanted Jeff, but Jeff stuck with his brother. There's a real loyalty Jeff has for Matt and it's shaped the past few years of his career pretty hard. I think there's a lot of complexities to their relationship and to what Jeff will do for Matt, and there's definitely a read of this situation where that's being taken advantage of. Jeff's an adult, but he's also a clearly kind of messed up one. People are often a lot more complicated than just 'this is bad so I stopped this', and that's. Kind of Jeff's story in other places in life, too.

He was able to be creative, do his own thing, and while he 2 bad incidents (one at Wrestle Kingdom which played a big part in the New Japan relationship ending and of course the Sting match) he got sober for the longest part of his career. I feel like even though he wasn't always teaming with Matt, anytime he'd go back to WWE was more for Matt than anything. And again, maybe this isn't fair, but since Jeff has been out anytime Matt's been asked he either outright said or alluded to Jeff getting back in the ring... and I just got the uneasy feeling that he wanted Jeff back so he could get more of a role rather than he wanted his brother back healthy. Just a bad vibe I get and that's the biggest concern I have for Jeff. I had a friend in college (since passed away) who was an addict. At college and with friends he had no desire to drink or anything, but the moment he went back home for breaks he'd immediately start taking oxycodone and other pills and would have multiple ODs. Relapses can happen anytime and keeping Jeff away from wrestling doesn't stop the relapses... but hopefully, again, they don't decide to let Jeff do Swantons off of ever high place right away again

Matt and Jeff are kind of just a really interesting case study in how far charisma can get you. Matt's a more diverse performer than Jeff, he's a better promo, he seems to have a better mind for the business as a whole and more creative drive, he was arguably better in the ring at his peak... but Jeff just has something he doesn't. You can maybe point toward Jeff's tendency toward insane highspots, but Matt's certainly not a stranger to that either and that alone isn't everything.
