Sobering video from Will on the long term effects of today's business.
"I cant perform a shooting star press safely anymore so I've decided its best I cut it out. I am not going to lie to you guys I feel like my body and me are deteriorating right in front of everyone's eyes."
Hard words from one of the most gifted in ring stars of all time.
I didn't know if this should be posted in Wrest or here so please move if so.

Hopefully he can give us at least 5 more years if he can stay clear of injuries etc. If he needs to retire sooner rather than later than I'd rather he retire whilst he's still in relatively good condition.

Dude has taken some terrible injuries, some off of "What was he even thinking?" and some just off a bad break or sheer accident
Dude's neck has been f***ed up for a long time and that's about the worst place you can have problems if you're a wrestler. He's still one of the best out there, but stuff like this makes me think he's absolutely main eventing All In at Wembley as a superface more than he's gonna retire in a year, but that's just my take on it.

His style and going lightspeed as he did was bound to catch up to him way quicker than alot of others.
I am sure he can adapt his style and slow it down so he can get a few more years because no way he continues going as hard as he has been months from now if not even sooner.

I feel like it was ten years ago when news (Ospreay himself?) said that he's pretty much done. Is he done done now?

Around 2018 Chris Jericho mentioned with some level of dismay that people were saying that Will Ospreay was the next Dynamite Kid. He not only said that Ospreay didn't need to be, and he shouldn't want to be the next Dynamite Kid and all he needed to do was dial back his stuff.
Here we are three neck injuries, numerous shoulder injuries, and likely more than a few concussions later and the prophecy has come to pass.
It sucks to be honest, he got bullheaded (as you do in your 20s) when people suggested he tone it down, because he just thought they were just old and jealous that they couldn't do the things he did, and now he's realizing too late that they may have been right.

If I recall that was when he broke his neck on a botched 630 splash and Ospreay was understandably freaked the f*** out about it. He got better, and continued his in ring career shortly thereafter.

When he first wrestling on my local indie in Nottingham he would go for a standing spinning thing, maybe a phoenix splash or similar
It was a running joke with the very small crowd that he landed on his head every single time and that he should stop even attempting it
I suspect a lot of his issues come from doing stupid stuff like that at the very start of his career, when he was a kid who probably felt invincible

I hope Ospreay is able to wrestle at the Wembley Stadium show.

I hope he has enough in him to have one quick run in America that sets him up for life, if not f*** it there are worse things than being a regular guy with a regular job, paralysis or extreme CTE for example.

Trouble is doing those things helped get him to the top of the industry with a good chance he may have a main event level match at first wrestling show at Wembley for over 30 years for a company he doesn't even work for. There's no way of knowing if he'd make it to those heights if he toned it down earlier but seems unlikely, it's hard to stand out by being merely good these days. He's not a Jericho that can coast on charisma. Is it worth a shorter career to peak that high? It's a YMMV situation but probably. Is it worth having long-term health issues for the rest of your life? Probably not but on the other hand you can get those working a more regular job with far lower rewards. Slowing down is good advice but I can understand those that don't take it.

My theory is that as Nick Wayne grows stronger then Will Ospreay grows weaker.

I really think most people in wrestling would be better off focusing on what sorts of characteristics can make them stand out rather than trying to do the craziest/flippiest spots. These days if you see somebody do something like a springboard phoenix splash to the floor it's just like "oh yeah lol I just saw somebody do that through 6 tables at the GCW show two days ago" and if we've reached that sort of apathy (for lack of a better term) towards stuff like that, I think wrestlers would be better off focusing in other areas, not only to stand out, but also for the sake of their longevity

It’s a shame that wrestling is a “if you don’t work you don’t get paid” kind of job as Will could probably do with a solid year off without injury so he can just work on himself mentally and physically in an attempt to extend his career.
That being said, at this point I don’t think Will needs to be doing SSP’s and dives consistently. He’s got a decent power and strike game going that he could build on. He could maybe transition into a high spots are for big moments wrestler.

If you're a Vikingo that can be best in world at that aspect then by all means go for it. For most wrestlers though standing out through character and/or gimmick is more likely to get them noticed. A more distinct in-ring style too, excelling in one area rather than trying to do everything. I think we'll see a trend in that direction in the coming years, it's arguably already started. Hook is certainly benefiting from that approach.

Ospreays in a situation as well where, rightly or wrongly, he's taken on the rebuilding of both the New Japan and British wrestling scene on his back so he's been going full force globally throughout the pandemic and beyond. Whilst it's resulted in incredible matches, he's accumulated a lot of wear and tear. He needs to take some prolonged time off Omega style, find out what magic treatments Mysterio got, and get a nice fat contract from AEW or WWE and enjoy a less rigorous schedule.

I'm not sure I agree with Ospreay rebuilding the British scene, he's not that involved really. He only works for Rev Pro and that's always had its steady audience of diehards.
