I have read a proposed theory that this is not an actual proposal but leaked by the studios so it makes the WGA look bad when they decline. It's less a proposed theory and more something that's been going on since the last strikes in 2007. Leak stuff out to the press and, as you said, make the WGA look bad if they reject it. Heck, they tried it before this strike started before the WGA put out the document about proposals and what was accepted and what wasn't. To put it all simply, and this is something both unions have said, if the WGA and SAG-AFTRA haven't said anything about proposals, they're dream scenarios that the AMPTP cooked up to cause tension if they're rejected. |

Even just within that it seems like a massive f***ing yikes to me that it says humans will still be credited. That is not at all an assurance that they won't replace the bulk of them with AI and make the only real writing jobs be having people polish up what computers shit out, just that they might credit those people.

No one ever had any illusions of ChatGPT being credited as the writer on a movie or tv show, so that particular "concession" doesn't mean much. To think, that's "the middle ground" for the AMPTP. |

So now the director of Tron 3 is whining about how the strike is delaying production of the movie. Which'll probably be awful anyway given it stars Jared Leto and the director previously did Dead Men Tell No Tales and Maleficent 2.

WGA Strike captains are distributing this Gene Maddus's name and face and advising members to not give him the time of day. I'm guessing the "prominent showrunner" (assuming they even exist) has a name that rhymes with "Brian Durphy" though. |

Good to see the precedence sent by the Monkey-selfie case was upheld. However, what might be a grey area unless covered in the trial is if you take an ai generated script and send it to script doctors to actually fix... would it still fall in teh same category. |

It does note in the ruling that significant human involvement changes circumstances so it'll probably just be, "No, see, we had a human give it a rewrite, we're good," and that'll be fine.
