Did not know there was even a SAG-AFTRA election coming up. Or that Miss Fine was going up against someone who thought strikes should be "short and sweet": Puts both Miss Drescher and Miss Fisher's overwhelming victories in perspective.

It’s a bizarre campaign to run on. “If you elect me, this strike will end regardless of the deal on the table because the best social movements only last a few months!”

Their opponents almost sound like industry plants.
I'm sure Drescher would love to go back to the negotiating table. But the AMPTP refuses to do so in good faith. "Starve them out."

After a week where Rolling Stone puts out a Jimmy Fallon expose, where even the people who like him don't want to be on the record saying as much, it's a choice to be the first chat show host to come back to not just scab but hire scab writers.

Daytime talk shows are covered by the Network TV Code, so Drew herself isn't scabbing on the SAG front. The WGA is another story.

In all seriousness, I did see something basically putting the theory that Drew was probably told by CBS to go back on the air or else the show would end, something you probably notice they wouldn’t be willing to do to Stephen Colbert because he’d probably say “F*** off” and they wouldn’t be able to do much about it. Not that it justifies it but it sounds more likely considering she’s the only one to announce a comeback so far. EDIT: And it gets better with reports of audience members supporting the WGA are getting thrown out from the show. Something that is absolutely the best look, especially with picketing going on outside the show as we speak.

Jon Stewart, Conan, and other late night talk shows made it work back with the last writers strike because they're naturally funny people who can do a great job with improv. And also used their platforms to support the WGA. Something tells me Drew Barrymore isn't that.

What could she have to talk about without actors coming out to schill their stuff?
Watch all of the sudden Maury povich comes out of retirement to rule daytime again

Okay if Disney and Spectrum can cut a deal, what can't these people? With fall coming, you would think play time is over, each side made their point, let's get serious and cut a deal.

The issue is the studios aren't interested in deals. They haven't been negotiating whatsoever, they made their offer and every move they've made since has just been to try to force the WGA and SAG to take it.

One sides position is that they don’t make enough to live on. The others is that that’s ridiculous…and if they wait a few months they’ll all lose their homes, starve, and take whatever they’re offered. The latter presents that without a hint of irony.

The WGA/SAG weren’t holding Monday Night Football hostage so… In all seriousness, as others have said, one side’s made their stance clear, the other’s been trying to convince them the shit deal that caused the strike was actually good even though they could clearly afford the deal that would end the strike.

To add to my point further, because it deserves that rather than to add as an edit, the Disney/Spectrum deal had Disney remove a bunch of premium channels from the service so stuff like Disney XD, FXX etc, which was showing live action content that was getting actors and writers involved in them royalties.
If less people are watching those channels, it makes the easy case for Disney to just axe them as they have been doing globally and thus, drives the content more towards streaming and, in turn, cents worth of royalties at best for people to are involved in that content on the writing and acting side. So even in that example, it makes the case for why the strikes exist in the first place.

I never watched his show regularly (don't watch any of the late night shows really), but when I did it was always funny. The continuous bit with Paul Rudd will never not make me laugh.

This is exactly like my local hockey teams owner who claims he “loses” money on a team that has more than tripled in value in the 12 years he’s owned it. Of which they’ve missed the playoffs every year…an nhl record.
Whenever a rich person tells you they’re losing money…kick them in the dick
