So I guess in other news, Drew Barrymore is an asshole Maybe she'd understand the actual plight of actors and writers if she starred in anything worth a shit in 20 plus years. Multiple audience members were also thrown out for wearing WGA strike shirts, they even went through peoples BAGS to see if they had anything WGA related in them like pins. Just a shitty human being. deadline.com/2023/09/drew-barrymore-show-writers-strike-picket-line-1235543216/

Basically that. There was no actor's strike at the time so they could only do so much. O'Brien, Colbert etc were also writers so couldn't technically write or do anything except stand on stage and perform. Now, a likely reason why they didn't do the same thing this time around was probably because there were SAG negotiations coming up and they could decide to not do their shows without their writers because they knew if that went sideways, they'd probably not be able to do them anyway, or even any of the other projects someone like a Colbert does across Paramount etc. As mentioned by others, Drew's not violating SAG because of how the deals work involving her role as a host of a daytime show but writers were involved in questions, monologues etc so there's very much a lot of scabbing involved. EDIT: What also helps with both WGA and SAG is that they mostly want the same things. They don't want to be replaced by AI, they want better conditions for the work they have to do over so many hours and they want more royalties for the work that is now more freely accessible than ever along with not being screwed over if a Netflix or a Disney or a Paramount decides to send their shows to the Shadow Realm for tax rightoffs.

Yep, a united front during this strike is a big reason. Stewart and others weren't also confiscating pro-strike stuff. They were also paying their own staffs out of pocket.

Like, I know Fallon’s had the expose about him recently and such but the recent stuff where every late night host basically decided to not work without writers at a time where late night is still an important part of network TV showed real leadership. It’d have been way easier to just have the shows going and show support until the SAG strikes started and stopped them from working anyway but the fact it happened was the first real act of co-operation from both unions.

Yeah, look at all the news that has happened since the strike began, Last Week Tonight would be doing crazy ratings, but they're all united and haven't aired an episode.

I love that every worker in Hollywood (except directors) is seizing this moment.

We've got ten more days in Hot Labor Summer, let's get that Disney union going too, eh?

As Lizuka said, let’s get approval for that Disney union and kick things off properly.

Colbert, Conan, etc were technically not writing and did all improv. They also used their platforms to support their writers. There's apparently scabbing involved with Drew Barrymore's show and writing. And while her show is fine from a SAG standpoint, it isn't from a WGA one.

Cool.
How about you let your bosses know that? They seem to be the ones not that keen on ending it.

You’re right. It’s an absolute shame neither you or anyone else in the AMPTP can do a thing about it. Just the biggest shame.

CEOs: "If you don't start cyber bullying actors and writers to get back to work, you won't have any new shows for the rest of the year."
Me, reading my silly little comic books: "Oh no..."

Is the strategy for today “Have a bunch of rich people who can do something say that something should be done and not actually do anything about it”?
Because if anything, this makes them look more incompetent for not doing anything than in any way sympathetic.

The studio solution:Every movie from now on will be a Taylor Swift lead movie...including remakes. Taylor Swift as Domic Toreto in the fast and furious Taylor Swift as IronWoman Taylor Swfit as Ghandi Taylor Swift as the creatue from the black lagoon But all done in the style of a live concert

And when you have me longing for Disney under Michael Eisner…man…

The rescue for movie theaters is a woman who said "f*** you for owning my songs, that's my work. So, I'm just gonna rerecord my old work, release it, and I'm the sole owner. You won't f*** me over anymore", and it doesn't strike the studios that something's there.
