If you write something and it gets used/you are hired, you are absolutely entitled to compensation and if you are a staff writer for ANYTHING, you should be paid a living wage. And yes Bill, a writer IS 'owed a living' by being compensated for their work through monetary transaction, which is literally the f***ing point of employment.

Bill Maher once again standing up for the little guy by exclusively punching down on the little guy. It'll interesting to see his show entirely pivot as you aren't going to get many voices of reason he used to give him a veneer of representing both sides that are willing to help him scab so it's going to be a parade of fellow 'why I left the left' grifters, Jordan Petersons and Elon Musk.
It'll be a good pilot season for when he's finally canned and heads to Fox.

Bill Maher hit on a friend of mine at a CVS when she was a teenager in Los Angeles and he was a grown ass creep.
She told him she was a teenager, so he walked away, grabbed a copy of Teen People off the newsstand, circled the girl's cleavage on the cover and the article title on the cover that said "How to tell if you're wearing the right bra," walked back over to her and handed it to her and then said "how about we discuss this article over dinner?"

Long story short, if this gets approved, it would go into effect in January so if the studios hold out, they’ll basically lose out on negotiating power of starving them out.
Coincidentally, there were follow up stories saying about the studios saying the writers would be coming back to the table next week, whatever that means.

As someone pointed out on Twitter, this is the sort of shit these people were doing to places like Toys R Us and other businesses where instead of doing the things that would help the consumers, they did things for the short term benefit of them and the shareholders who could easily just take their money to the next grift (because it is a grift) after they tanked the business completely and sold it piece by piece. What this guy is doing is basically exposing it for what it is because this isn't affecting companies that can be replaced by another, this is the stuff people watch when they're coming home from work or things that mean a lot to them in their lives. People will know if you're turning that stuff into soulless "content" that can be produced with robots and lack what made people love them in the first place, the human connection and the escapism that can bring. |
