Elijah Burke. Had the tools and talent, but never worked out for him.

Elijah Burke. Had the tools and talent, but never worked out for him. IIRC, he got in hot water with WWE management over trashing the Diva Search on Ghost Hunters. Burke's TNA run should have been a huge success, but stupid booking ruined that.

Not really a past star since he's still active but then again he did leave the WWE nearly 6 years(!) ago now - Neville should have had a better run. He's amazing in ring and became so much more confident on the mic and in character when he became the King of the Cruiserweights. He should have moved up from 205 Live and could have easily slotted into the mid card scene and beyond. Instead he got fed up and left.

Alex Wright to me is one I thought was a lock to become an upper midcard talent. I think I’ve mentioned this before, but Alex Wright is the quintessential example of a wrestler who would’ve been had a far better career had he come along a decade later. He was too big to be a cruiserweight in that era, but probably too small/lean to have ever been nailed on as a heavyweight, and didn’t have the character or promo skill to get over then, and it’s a shame because he was a great worker. If he had come along in the 2000s instead of the nineties he’d probably be in a Castagnoli-type position now.

I'd say "Nature Boy" Buddy Landell, but we all know why that didn't happen.

I don't think I've chucked my own suggestion into this thread, but I'll go ahead and say, on looks alone, Renee Dupree should have been a bigger deal than he was. The fact that he matured into a decent wrestler helped, but that guy was, cosmetically, the total package.

Hakushi (at least in the U.S., can't speak to elsewhere). Felt like he was a couple years before his time.
In that same vein, WWF having 2 Cold Scorpio and wasting him w Flash Funk is some bullshit.
Also Monty Brown should have been a megastar

Like, it sucks that his career ended the way it did, but dude did the right thing.

D-Lo Brown. If not for the tragedy of Droz (another one who qualifies for this thread) hanging over his head, he could have been one of the guys who was able to move on from the Attitude Era to become a solid mid-carder during the Ruthless Agression era.

Sabu. Yes he’s a pretty big star, but him with the WWE machine behind him, reigned in a bit, and off the drugs and he would have been a bigger star.
Granted Vince would almost certainly have f***ed it up, but it’s fun to dream.

Then he's useless" pile that he's been cultivating for the last twenty-something years.

Paul Burchill should’ve been the next lesnar This is my pick as well. I read through all the replies before I made mine to see if anyone else mentioned him. I still think "The Ripper" Paul Burchill had the tools to be the next HHH. Great look. Great gimmick. Good in the ring. He felt like a modern day "cerebral assassin".

I can see him being in the Mankind role and maybe having a short feud with Taker.
