Yeah, that's completely ridiculous.
Feel like if they did some bullshit like this I'd be filling my empty beer can from the tap in the bathroom or something.

I don’t think I’ve ever been to a major concert that handed out free water other then the drinking fountain.

Yeah, I've never really done the concert thing, but I've been to wrestling show, sporting events, conventions, Punkin Chunkin, etc. and never once have I seen any of them give out free water. Hell, last ROH show I went to at the Manhattan Center charged me $6 for a water.

Yeah, that's completely ridiculous. Feel like if they did some bullshit like this I'd be filling my empty beer can from the tap in the bathroom or something. Years ago ,2003 or 2004,there was a big out door show in the Astrodome parking lot in July. Website for this touring festival said "you are allowed 3 bottles of water for each member of your party." So we filled a backpack up with 12 bottles of water. Get to show and get told we arent allowed to bring any food or drink in..... Ok whatever go in and see a 16 ounce soda is 7 bucks. Beer is 9 bucks for a cup of it. Then learn there is 3 guys on the far right side that are walking to local gas station buying bottles of water. then you pass them money for the bottles thru the fence and they toss you the water over the fence...... So every hour one of us would go over to the water fence and pay 3 bucks each for bottled water. I pretty much refuse to goto any outdoor event that will not allow me ot bringg a cooler of drinks with me.

A couple of weeks ago I got stung £3 for a small bottle of water at a gig. They did eventually start giving people free water, but only at the barrier, not at any of the bars as far as I could see. It was pretty dreadful.

Would they at least be forced to give you water in case of a medical emergency?

I've been to a great many venues spread out across three different states, and nowhere is anything free, even water. Nor have I ever expected it. The writer of that article comes off kind of dumb.
Cranjis McBasketball might have some insight into this, as he works or has worked in this industry. How important is profit from concession stands for venues?

This must be an American thing.
In New Zealand or pretty much anywhere else in world if you are a business that serves alcohol, you provide free water to drink.
But yeah, f*** paying 10 bucks for a can of water. If that was me, I would tell that bartender to stick that can up his arse.

This is definitely standard practice, and it also definitely should be illegal.
Most larger venues do have drinking fountains, but a cup of water with an alcoholic drink is just good sense. He wasn’t just asking for something free; those concert beers aren’t cheap. A paper cup full of tap water isn’t going to bankrupt anyone.

If the person paid for a beer and asked for a cup of water (not bottled water), I just don't see the issue. I get the cup cost money... but come on. This is one person and while I'm sure they can use the old "if I do it for you, I have to do it for everyone", but I don't think everyone buying beer is going to ask for water. Some might... but not everyone. The entire "concert industry" from tickets (i.e Ticketmaster) to concessions is a complete disaster.

I'd never expect bottled water for free, but most places I've been to would give tap water for free. You usually have to specify or they'll try and give you the bottled stuff.

Yeah, I’ve never been turned down anywhere asking for “a cup of water,” but I’ve also never asked at a concert venue. But that whole industry is so corrupt and money-hungry that I’m almost surprised they don’t charge you an admission fee to stand in line at the concession stand.

Cranjis McBasketball might have some insight into this, as he works or has worked in this industry. How important is profit from concession stands for venues? A lot of places, the only profit they’ll ever see is the concession stand. So yeah, they’re gonna push the hell out of their stuff. Not sure how this place is set up, so impossible to say. The tone of the article and the way too much exposition on the water story makes me think he asked like an ass and nobody was willing to help him. They maybe not even had cups to even give him, since the rise of pre-mixed cocktails in cans is just another expense that people are just gonna have to throw in the trash anyway. We had a guy insist he was having diabetic issues and needed a chocolate bar but didn’t have any money. I told the girls to just take $2 from the till and get him one, it’s been so long I forget if they got him one or he said this before they did but he insisted it needed to be a Snickers. “Ok dude, now you’re pushing your luck”. Anyway, we took care of the guy and he said this happens to him all the time, he’s fine.

I've never heard of concert or sports venues offering free anything lol I get the expectation, but these places are designed specifically to make money. They absolutely should offer water for free in the case of an emergency, but in this case, I feel like as shitty as it comes across, the venue is within their rights.
