Yeah, the initial deal was $50m and the reworked deal in January was $175m which in itself was surreal at the time, especially since it was only 3 months since Dynamite debuted. Can someone who likes numbers do the math to tell me how much of a percentage of an increase is from the initial deal?

So Meltzer says Punk's return at the Collision debut is gonna be called "The Second Coming". The damn fools, I've been saying since this rumour first started that the show should be called "The Second City Coming", how is that not the obvious choice?!?! The f***ing show is IN THE SECOND CITY!

The f***ing show is IN THE SECOND CITY! The optimist in me wants to believe this is AEW giving a nod to Punk's egotism and hinting at a heel turn. The realist in me believes that TK genuinely views Punk's comeback as akin to the Biblical Second Coming. Goddamn it, the company is doing SO GOOD, why do they have to spoil it by bringing back this miserable prick?

I do think he's gonna turn heel VERY quickly in this run, but I can't see them trying to pull it off in Chicago after being gone from the company for 10 months. I also think in the long run, Punk is gonna crash and burn again but as someone who has never seen Punk live, is still a fan of his as a wrestler and is planning on attending the 4th and 5th episodes of Collision I'm totally okay with them taking another shot at this.

Companies doing well and even if he flames out again it's gotten beyond him with the success, especially with the new deals and shows on the horizon. And I totally believe this is tongue and cheek, and it's Chicago, it's the one place he's not gonna get booed but it is also a place he could if he does come back heel, come off like a martyr much like Bret in Canada.

Money is the ticket to get Mone, not CM Punk.

Money shouldnt be an issue, just ask Mike Tyson who said AEW pays a good amount of money

If the details of the new business deal are correct, then AEW's business future is secure for a few years. However, unresolved issues in the locker room can make a company hell to work for, lead to bad morale, bad TV, and wrestlers leaving. The vibe and atmosphere of AEW could absolutely be ruined if the issues raised by Punk returning aren't resolved. That's what I'm worried about being ruined.

Side note, I wanna know how the addition of Collision is handled by TSN. Dynamite is always on, but they’ve only aired Rampage on TV once or twice, it’s always on what’s now called TSN+. And I think the Battle of the Belts specials have been inconsistent, some on TV some on TSN+

It's why I hope things are worked out in time. If legal stuff still needs to be worked out, let it be worked out, and then get it all straightened away I would think it'd have to be a given if they were doing this, or at the very least they will be cordial for the betterment of the company itself.

That's like saying the Jets signed Aaron Rodgers because he was the ticket to Randall Cobb (or the Bucs signed Tom Brady to get Gronk, if you want to be kinder to Mercedes).

Wade Keller wrote this today:
When the new AEW-Warner Media Discovery (WMD) deal is announced this Wednesday, a few key components are expected to be part of the deal.
•A new weekly Saturday two hour prime time program called AEW Collision
•A content agreement with the newly rebranded Max (formerly HBO Max) streaming service
•Roughly $240 million in rights fees overall (that’s $4.6 million per week!) on average per year over five years
The rights fees circulating in the wrestling industry is not confirmed, but feels like more than a rumor gone wild at this point. That’s a massive increase over what AEW is currently receiving and gives AEW several things: Financial security, nearly assured profitability, and a much bigger budget for talent and production.

This is the biggest deal in wrestling in a long time. The WWE deals in the past have always been a case of the rich getting richer. This is a company that was probably somewhat profitable, but now has ridiculous amounts of standalone financial security past the Khans' bankroll. Especially at a time when WWE is going to be doing massive cuts again. Hopefully some of them are production gurus; that would be a real boon.

I'm guessing if they really are bringing in that much money now you're going to see a lot more in the way of AEW taking risks with giant promotional stuff and with trying to scoop people away from WWE. That's very, "We're safe to take chances in the name of future growth," kind of money.
