Well, that's going to result in an absolute shitload of fantastic videos completely disappearing and now everything on the platform is on a ticking time limit from when whoever made it dies, so that's pretty horrific news.

All of these things will only ever get worse.
Elon Musk did this with Twitter first. Imagine that shit, doing something HE thought was a good idea

At least with Youtube I kind of understand it from a perspective of 1), hosting videos is expensive, and 2), corporations not giving a shit about art preservation, for Twitter even if he were meaningfully shaving off costs by shutting down old accounts he's also simultaneously driving them up with his plans to expand how much video they're hosting and add calling and other shit that'll cost way the hell more to host than old tweets do when those are completely owned spaces that Twitter can absolutely never meaningfully compete in.

Ok, so does anyone have any suggested channels we should check out while there's still time?

That's gonna eliminate a large amount of their content.

I actually like a lot of the older YouTube videos from 2006–2015 or so. It is a shame that all of it will disappear into lost media.

Man, this could be (and frankly, I hope IS) what will lead to YouTube losing a lot of power, and a chance for another host to step up and take the lead.
I doubt most people are even aware of how many videos they watch from channels that haven't been updated in forever.

Don't see it being likely, unless it's a host from an entirely different part of the world. Most American Tech CEOs all went to the same schools and have the same philosophies.

You'll probably find European ones are that way too. But the wider point is, just like social media, a lot of the stuff we have now is in place because the process is big, expensive and needs to be fine tuned to such an nth degree to not only appeal to the people that like the old place but better. There have been a lot of YouTube-likes to pop up and the only one that's really stuck around and somewhat "viable" is DailyMotion which tells you all you need to know about what happened with the others.

I miss Blip. Blip's a good example of a service that got too big for its bridges and ate itself up and its user base trying to get the money back it put in. I should also say Vevo's still somewhat going but it's basically a hub to buy indie movies and where press screenings for various studios are put. Which, hey, is fine for what it is, but YouTube killer it ain't. Along with that, if you're in any way a big creator and have stuff people like, you're either going through Nebula or one of the people consistently making YouTube content and burning yourself out to cater to an ever-changing nonsense algorithm. Or, in some cases, literally both!

I'm honestly surprised this didn't happen sooner. From what I'm getting if the user logs into their google account, they are peachy. Still sucks some hidden gems on Youtube will get blasted from this but the day was coming.

Well I hope Joe Gagne log into his account soon.
Not seen a new vid for him in years. But his wrestling game stuff is good stuff and it would be a shame to lose it
