It will be interesting to see how cultural institutions, especially archives, react to this news. Twitter has already forced them to archive masses of tweets in concerted actions. YouTube videos will have to be appraised in a much more elaborate way. Are there any interfaces at all for archiving YouTube videos more easily?
Edit: Above tweet sounds like good news, but since Musk butchered Twitter, every tweet looks maximum untrustworthy.

Well, this is depressing. A shame, because there's a ton of old content that I liked and sometimes re-visit.

According to YouTube Liason Rene Ritchie they have no plans to delete accounts with youtube videos on them: If they stick to that, and with these companies that can change on an absolute whim, great.

According to YouTube Liason Rene Ritchie they have no plans to delete accounts with youtube videos on them: I hope this also applies to video game soundtracks, because there are plenty of YouTube channels with those that haven't had activity in many years.

I really hope that tweet is true (and that Google doesn't go back on it for extra profits down the line) because as the internet stands we're facing the equivalent of the burning of the library of Alexandria. So much pivotal history and media could be lost if just a few companies decided it wasn't worth it any more.

How does this affect channels with no videos? Because I'm on all the time, I just don't upload videos.

If they're monitoring this stuff through your Google account, they'll probably just take notice that you're logged in and active. Otherwise, if you like and/or comment on videos every so often, that should be enough for your account to count as "active".
