Inspired by going on Walmart.com and sorting DVDs by low to high, almost immediately finding Super Mario Bros. (1993). I remember when DVDs were first blowing up in the early 2000s I would always see the same edition on the $15 (!) discount rack at Best Buy.
Despite being a box office disappointment I could see why they would push that title so heavily. I mean EVERYONE still knows Mario. I’m almost positive they overshot their consumer base though and printed way too many copies. I’m curious how many exactly. With this edition still making the rounds 20+ years later it had to have been a million or something. Heck, there might just be that many that are in brand new / factory sealed condition.

The Masters of the Universe Origins toy line has both Wal Mart and Target exclusives. They seem to make just as many of the toys as the do the non exclusives so they always clog up the shelf and end up on clearance/discount stores.

The fact that thousands of Funko Pops are currently in landfills is just depressing, considering how much money you have to spend on the secondary market to get some of the rarer ones.
Along the same lines, if you go to any retro/used games store you will be absolutely inundated with Skylanders and Disney Infinity figures on sale for like $2-4 each.

I had no control over what price they were getting for the individual figures ( Quite often I would give the advice of sell privately on eBay as they would get more money that way which to begin with got me in trouble with my boss until the price dropped below £1 a figure.) the kids were sometimes happy they had money to guy a game while the parents weren't happy with how little they got in re-selling the skylander figures until we showed them just how many we got back per week.

I worked at Blockbuster up until closure. we had a massive month long liquidation sale where EVERYTHING was sold off. the very last night all we had left were dozens of copies of a Robert Pattinson documentary called "Rob-cessed"

I'm pretty sure there are still copies of the Dr. Death and Jacqueline WrestleMania XV figures on dollar store shelves to this day.

Just what I came here to mention. I also remember in the 2010s where Target/Walmart WWE shelves would be nothing but John Cenas and Rey Mysterios.

I seem to remember hearing that they produced more cartridges of it than there were Atari 2600s at the time. Is that correct?

I remember someone here posting a stack of those two bald twin wrestlers action figures in Walmart--like a pile of a dozen boxes. This was five years after they quit lol.
edit: The Gymini! That's their name.

I remember going to Walmart and seeing boxes of "Mortal Kombat: The Komplete Kollection," which consisted of "Mortal Kombat: Deception," "Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks," and "Mortal Kombat: Armageddon." They were always there. The same could be said about the GTA collection with "Grand Theft Auto III," "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City," and "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas."
Also, what's interesting is that I have gone to places like Big Lots, CVS Pharmacy, Walgreens, and even looked in Walmart bargain bins and have seen brand new copies of movies that were clearly from when they were first printed, not reprints. For example, I remember seeing a sealed copy of "The World is Not Enough" and seeing stickers on the plastic with some dated contest ads and stuff (I wonder if there were any of those ads inside the case like you would often find in a brand new copy of a movie). The same could be said when I found a copy of "xXx" at Big Lots. It was clearly the original 2002 DVD release because it also had ads for some kind of car program and there were things that said "Offer ends..." and it said sometime in 2003.

Glover on the N64, they made twice as many copies as the standard n64 game sold.
The modern publishing industry's dirt open secret is some books are artificially made best sellers, ordering copies in bulk to up the numbers to gibe the author bragging rights, with the bulk copies given away or dumped. Charity shops tend to have a lot of questionable books for a reason.

The PS2 game Raw Danger. I think it was still on the shelves at wal-mart until they finally discontinued the PS2.

There's a theory that The Master Hand is actually Glover trying to get revenge on other gaming characters who are more popular than it.
