The new show should help White out a lot. As said earlier, he's a guy who works best as THE guy. With their styles I could see Punk and White having a truly incredible, old-school match. He's better than MJF, Swerve, and while Juice Robinson is a first-ballot hall of famer and the Rock of our generation, I *think* Jay might just be a *bit* better than him, too

The bang bang gang and the guns and all that stuff just seems really pathetic to me. Like little kids being naughty little heels
Never seen him anywhere else but he looks boring, not good promos and matches so far aren't anything that dozens others in AEW couldnt do
His stuff with Juice and Ricky have been some of my least favourite AEW stuff in their first few years

You're not going to get peak NJPW Jay White unless he's basically the top heel in the company. It just isn't going to hit the same in the mid-upper-midcard. MJF has that top main event heel spot locked down though so until he goes face or takes a break after losing the title I don't think Jay will be headlining. He would have the same issue if he went to WWE. He wasn't going to be a bigger heel than Roman. True but with 2 brands, I could’ve seen Jay being the top heel on Raw. It’s kind of wide open with Balor and Gunther as the top heels. He could've been built up to that, but I don't think Jay White would've gotten the AJ Styles Express to the top of the card either. Like everyone else, he would've likely done his time in NXT first and then make his way up the ladder from there. That's also a process that could've taken months, if not years.

Triple H was apparently high on him, I would think he’d skip NXT but be positioned lower than Styles when he debuted, with an ability to work up the card rather quickly. If Omega jumps, I think he gets the Styles treatment.

I think the same about Omega if he jumped, but I'm not sure what relevance that has to this conversation.

Comparison of what type of star would get the Styles treatment, as you mentioned. I was led to believe that White is the one that lost interest and got gun shy when all the talk of Vince coming back into the fold happened. There’s also those rumors of a quasi-hiring freeze around the time of the sales talks. Not sure what exactly happened.

I went with "Not Good." He's basically been presented as just another guy in a promotion full of dudes who also qualify as "just another guy."
Linking up with Juice Robinson, who seems like a clown, probably hasn't helped my impression of White in AEW. The promo in San Diego where he's going in on FTR about being a bunch of dumb, southern hicks was stupid and an example of his poor presentation to this point.

The promo in San Diego where he's going in on FTR about being a bunch of dumb, southern hicks was stupid and an example of his poor presentation to this point. I thought it was great, mainly because he calls them stupid until they confront them, then they're smart and clever, and while they hide behind Tony, he tries to get them to join and try to act like he didn't just shred them, he's a great smarmy heel who likes to pester and manipulate Also it's so weird how polarizing Juice is, people love him here and think he elevates the act significantly because he's good at being a funny psychopath, and others apparently can't stand him, the Juice's taste must vary I suppose I think it's kind of crazy we have legit takes calling this "Some of the worst stuff AEW has done since they've started", which also harkens back to a post I made way earlier in the thread about how crazy I feel some takes get about Jay White specifically... feels like he didn't immediately deliver the way they wanted to, and now people are just done with him.

I feel like he's really picked things up since Collision started. He has, he's looked awesome, as has Bullet Club Gold Tonight's match was fantastic and he was a big reason it was. Far above average at this point.

I feel like he's really picked things up since Collision started. Dynamite was too stuffed for him to shine. Collision is giving him all the time to show what he's worth.

Loved seeing that Muta lock from Jay White tonight. He’s getting warmed up. Not sure why this thread was made only a few weeks into his run. Now would be a great time to start talking about his AEW run now that he’s gotten settled in. Did people expect him to get singles world title shots his first month in?

Because some people think that if you don't win the world title in your first couple of weeks you're doing poorly and are buried or something. Let him cook. Doesn't need to flash fry, just slow cook him all the way to the top, where he belongs.

Jay & Juice are killing it on Collision, this feud with CMFTR is the highlight of the show every week I'm warming up to Jay White, not having been familiar with him before. But Juice Robinson will always be an anchor to me. He's the Gilbert Gottfried of wresting with that annoying voice and is OK in the ring, I guess. But Toni loves him, so he's got that going for him.

Jay White, I think, is passable. So far he has been good in a way I don't particularly care for. The tag team match on Collision was a prime example of that. Moves executed flawlessly, but that is not what grabs me in a match. The transitions are more important to me and Jay White, like most wrestlers wrestling a fast pace, transitions by way of stop motion and wonkyness all to often. The exchange of getting behind each other's back with Dax completely lost me, because there was no technical reason for them losing the grip. And that is what I have seen in many lesser examples. If he's going slowly, he has some presence. If he is going fast, he loses presence and loses his grip on me. The early backlash against Jay White could be comparable to the backlash Andrade's faced even in his NXT run. He was anounced as a game changer and people except a game changer to do it instantly. Now people are left wondering if he can be a game changer or not.

Doesn't need to flash fry, just slow cook him all the way to the top, where he belongs. I think this is the legacy of WWE’s “big deal, fairly quick” booking over the last twoish decades. Which is bizarre, since so many of the WWE guys who got that treatment flopped specifically BECAUSE they were vaulted to the top of the card before anyone had a chance to get to know them. I think Switchblade’s run has been good. He’s establishing himself and his character for a new audience, rather than it just being assumed that everyone should just know what a huge star he is by virtue of his work in Japan alone. I bet he’ll have a world title run within the next 2 years.
