RAW (Netflix): $400-500 million/year for 5-10 years SmackDown (USA): $280 million/year for 5 years NXT (CW): At least $30 million/year for 5 years That’s a lot of f***in’ money on people fake fighting in their underwear.

Is kind of wild how out of nowhere this is with how for months on end the talk has been all Amazon, ESPN, FX, and TNT. It's yet another reminder that when it comes to this sort of business, the dirtsheets know nothing.

Variety and the Hollywood Reporter were mostly the ones saying those were the candidates.

RAW (Netflix): $400-500 million/year for 5-10 years SmackDown (USA): $280 million/year for 5 years NXT (CW): At least $30 million/year for 5 years That’s a lot of f***in’ money on people fake fighting in their underwear. And this is all for individual brands not just the one show. They have cashed out and maximized their shows to the fullest to get separate bags for each

Should note that the Netflix deal is basically Raw and the international rights to everything else, which is why it’s substantially bigger.

WWE's gonna be leaving Peacock when their contract expires, the NFL can only do one exclusive game a year on Peacock. They're gonna have to rely on Premiere League, and hope Ted can continue to be a hit to stay afloat till the NFL rights come up in a decade.

With those, and not to stray off topic, I think a lot of attention is going to be put on this new NFL/ESPN deal where the league itself has ownership stakes in the network. If that goes smoothly for both, the same will be offered to Peacock/NBC Universal.

Certainly didn't expect Netflix, but for that kind of huge dough, no wonder.
Content is king.

Does this mean that in Canada Sportsnet will no longer be showing the WWE? And that the Network as we know it will no longer exist?

Will Raw even have commercial breaks now? That was my takeaway from this: Raw's structure from this point onwards. I mean, do they even need to still be a 3 hour show now either (probably will stay that way but there is some wiggle room now)

WWE just signed weeks ago a new rights contract with its french broadcaster, Mediawan, a "multi-year deal", it will be interesting to see if WWE had an agreement to opt out in this case, or if Netflix will be able to broadcast live shows, with reruns on AB1.

Does this mean that in Canada Sportsnet will no longer be showing the WWE? And that the Network as we know it will no longer exist? It does seem like it. It’s a stealthy way of saying “a lot of international deals are ending this year and either the deals weren’t renewed or they were outbid throughly by Netflix”. WWE just signed weeks ago a new rights contract with its french broadcaster, Mediawan, a "multi-year deal", it will be interesting to see if WWE had an agreement to opt out in this case, or if Netflix will be able to broadcast live shows, with reruns on AB1. Stuff like these will be interesting, especially a bunch of countries just did the same thing (they hyped up Germany’s broadcasting deal not long ago considering it was the first time back on there for years, hence the show in Germany this year). It’ll definitely depend on the wording because it seems strict in the press release of countries for the time being.

The 3rd hour was a USA thing, because WWE raised their ratings, and WWE wasn't gonna say no to free money. Is it gonna go back to 2 hours and 10 minutes (give room for an overrun)?

Has Netflix ever done a live show? let alone live sports because I know someone asked about commercials....what is the chance Raw goes back to being pre-taped?

It’s a stealthy way of saying “a lot of international deals are ending this year and either the deals weren’t renewed or they were outbid throughly by Netflix”. On one hand it may make the idea of cutting cable in the house easier as I won’t need to subscribe through television to get our version of the network. On the other hand, there’s a chance that all the old content won’t be available to stream through Netflix.
