It’s pretty nuts that this might be one of the very few times in wrestling history that someone can point to one specific televised angle and say “THAT’S what cost you TV”. But like, did it? It's not like the CW would choose James Mitchell doing coke over a highly popular WWE property and WWE typically wants exclusivity. It can be pointed at as an angle that genuinely turned some fans off for good, but I still think it's a stretch to say it impacted a TV deal. Yeah, it’s a funny narrative (one I admittedly fell for myself), but if CW were looking at multiple companies and don’t have the same budget as a USA or a FX, NXT seems like the best of both worlds. Affordable and still part of the WWE umbrella. Win/Win.

Even in that event, Billy blew it by doing the dumbest shit imaginable It looks as bad as it can get optics wise that NWA's deal went south over a bad booking decision and NXT got a deal. Both could have happened, but it really doesn't negate what's being said about Corgan tbh It’s pretty nuts that this might be one of the very few times in wrestling history that someone can point to one specific televised angle and say “THAT’S what cost you TV”. Closest I can think of is Dixie getting put through a table, Spike TV telling them not to do it, and them not only doing it but advertising it on commercials with the tagline "IT HAPPENS" Their relationship was already pretty much over though.

Ari Emmanuel said they got a 70% increase on their current NXT deal. It's unclear what that is. Deadline said it was currently $15 million but they also said they got more than double their current deal which doesn't lineup with what Ari said.

Securing the bag as they say Really curious what this might mean for TNA, even ROH in the future. Both really feel like they're making a push for TV deals in 2024 and seeing this deal and that rights increase has to be enticing.

HBK did say he wants NXT on a "younger, hipper" network, booker of the year gets what he wants that said, the current CW is kind of a far cry from the one even a year ago, as nearly all their original programming are gone now (especially their DC shows and teen dramas), and they just tend to be importing international programming to complement their sports content.

CW are absolutely desperate for content now, they only have the more niche sports stuff these days.

In reaction to the news of NXT ending up on the CW over Billy Corgan's NWA, Shawn Michaels was reported as saying that thanks to recent events, the Impossible is Possible Tonight.

I guess we can consider the ? ditched. And unless something happens in the next couple of weeks, the person to determine where Raw will end up could still be Adam Silver. I feel like based on everything we're seeing so far, the NBA will stay put with espn x wbd

If the negotiations have been going on for weeks, then I guess the NWA coke angle didn't exactly drive this. Were they looking to get NXT and NWA and now are backing out on the latter? I think Billy was buying the time. I know it wasn't outright said that was the deal but it's the only thing that makes sense on it all.

I feel like based on everything we're seeing so far, the NBA will stay put with espn x wbd I will say, NXT not being near any Comcast owned channels basically leaves a door open for USA to just have both Raw and Smackdown again since it’ll likely be substantially cheaper but, well, if WBD is willing to let some of their rights go, that ad revenue alone would probably help the channel more than keeping Raw would.

So we might get the return of this: And we have to give up is Raw on USA? I'll be honest.... I'd take that trade. I miss that theme. It's the theme song to Remind Knicks Fans of Reggie & Michael.

The 70% number is impressive but it is also compared to a number they got on a hastily put together TV deal in 2019 when the show had no proven track record on television. They now built that resume and got a better deal accordingly. I do wonder though what CW expects here. Are they expecting what they're delivering now consistently? The 2023 average? NXT ratings have fluctuated a lot based on a variety of factors so I'm curious what they're hoping to see.
