He did Toronto a favor by opting in his deal because he could forced them to pay the bag now BUT he was already averaging 18PPG so with no FVV, if he can take another step up in his game, he can get over $20M AAV With him opted in his deal, Toronto has options. Best case scenario is they are ass, they trade him at the deadline and he comes right back during FA Chris Haynes saying that Trent and the Raptors are working on a long term deal so accepting the PO might have just been a relationship building move by Trent where the expectation is he will get rewarded for doing it. If the Raptors want to build around Barnes, then having Trent and OG in the lineup is important. They will need to space the floor if Barnes is going to facilitate a lot of the offense, and Trent and OG are their only real 3P threats. Surprised he accepted the PO, but maybe the interest in him wasn't as big as he thought it would be. Or maybe he just wanted to stay in Toronto, which is certainly not something you hear often from NBA players. Speaking of Toronto, if I'm the Raptors I'm trying to get the 3rd pick for Siakam and draft Henderson. They might as well trade OG and Siakim. Get the picks and can build around Trent and Barnes. If neither are good then you still have the picks to get some one at some point

Oh thank god we got rid of Marcus Morris. I love Brogdon but this alone makes this the best offseason ever.

You miss out on a title again and your answer is...Kristaps Porzingis? He had an excellent year last season.

If neither are good then you still have the picks to get some one at some point That makes sense if they are tanking, but the pick they traded to the Spurs for Poeltl is only top 6 protected so I think they will try to be respectable even if they end up moving on from VanVleet and Siakam. OG is the ideal 3+D role player, so he's a good fit if you think Barnes is going to be a star. Siakam has to go though since he'll get a massive max deal which will make him untradeable after next season, and there's a good chance he's stunting Barnes' development. Although I could also see a scenario where the Raptors bring everyone back, and see if a new coach can fix them (not the avenue I would take).

My first instinct is, this is just a band aid to the bigger problem of Boston never wanting to break up the core

Looking like trade could be done soon Boston: Kristaps Porzingis LA: Malcolm Brogdon Washington: Marcus Morris & picks Washington doing a lot of bending over this off-season, which probably isn't great for a franchise that has given their fanbase little reason to get excited since Isaiah Thomas was dropping 50 on them in 2017. They average 34 wins the last 6 years, and they're gonna get worse. They have nobody to spend that newfound cap space on because they're terrible at attracting FAs, they CLEARLY aren't adept at trades, and I can't imagine franchise-changing talent willing to go there when most stars have a say in where they go. And the draft class next year isn't great, this year they are sitting at the start of the 3rd tier of this draft, and last year they wasted a top 10 pick on a one-dimensional scorer who gave them less points than 11 of the next 13 picks.

Mfs betting on dudes like Deni Avdija or Johnny Davis to be franchise cornerstones, like Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Frank Kaminsky. As a shit franchise, you can't outmaneuver bad drafting.

I don't know why Pozingi would give up free agency for this?

I don't know why Pozingi would give up free agency for this? Not a lot of teams have money to spend Opting into $36M with a chance at a ring isn't the worst option he could make

Yeah, like their is no bright spot which is rare when trading a star Pelicans at least had young players coming back and then they "lucked" up with getting Zion at 1. OKC had Shai with an ass load of draft picks. Utah got a shit ton of picks for Rudy and Mitchell Luckily for NBA and some players, their is a floor so Wizards will have to spend money on someone (preferably taking a bad contract for picks) but this is about to be a real shit show.

My first instinct is, this is just a band aid to the bigger problem of Boston never wanting to break up the core Horford is a relic and for every bit of intensity and grit you get from Smart you get a hundred flops and a few dozen absolutely idiotic threes when he decides its time to play hero ball. I wouldnt have moved on from Brown for the sheer fact you're downgrading no matter who you bring in to replace him. Both Brown and Tatum are vets now who've gone deep in the playoffs and "should" know how to win They need to build a diverse bench and find a way to make certain Porzingas, Time Lord and Horford are somehow all healthy come playsoffs.

Wizards still trying to trade him to Boston via sign and trade KP opt out decision is 12 o clock tonight so if no trade then he becomes a FA unless him and Washington agree to push back the deadline
